I have to agree with Gary and if what Rich says about some kind of wheel
exchange is correct--the scale guy will have to add an extra $10+ for
wheels and couplers. Since my layout is mostly done and what the two
new majors are offering doesn't have too much appeal, I'm not really in
this game that much, but overall the cost difference will simply means
most will purchase less product. This makes their offerings
counter-productive to the code 110 guys first and then that will effect
the hi-rail guys too when less product is sold.
As a half solution, adding a coupon for a discount for scale wheels in
the box and maybe doing a joint venture with Kadee and NWSL would even
things out a bit. In this way MTH could get out of the nightmare of
supplying scale wheels to only some people, it would benefit NWSL and
Kadee with the added benefit of gathering numbers of cars that
eventually make it onto scale layouts--something a marketing dept.
should value.
Some of us older guys might remember when Kinsman offered a $.50 bounty
on AF trucks in exchange for his trucks, as I teen I borrowed a hack
saw and went to work scraping those knuckle trucks--somehow we seem to
be going backward.

Seems ridiculous to have to purchase an item with hi-rail wheels and
have the additional burden of having to purchase scale wheels. Yeah, I
know, there might be someone on the list that will swap. Big
deal.....but thatâEUR^(TM)s beside the point! You should be able to get
scale wheels vs. hi-rail wheels at time of purchase without having to go
through additional gyrations! Talked to a lady at MTH, but she
didnâEUR^(TM)t give me a warm fuzzy feeling at having the answer to the
âEURoeswapâEUR? or âEURoeorderâEUR? idea.

According to the catalog the F3's will have both scale and hirail
wheels included. Freight cars will be hirail only and you have to
purchase scale wheels separately.
MTH does not have a wheel swap program in O, so I would seriously
doubt they'll have one in S.
