Hi Mel; Well, I said it was an approximation.
For an accurate model, there were articles in RMC by Dennis Storzek (on a SOO Line 1932 AAR car from the Athearn HO model) and Mainline Modeler (on a MP prototype by our own Jeff English before he came over to S) which can guide in modifying a PRS 1937 AAR car. There is also an entire book devoted to the 1932 AAR design by Ted Culotta should you want to everything about the prototype. Some general info can be found here: http://steamerafreightcars.com/prototype/frtcars/1932aramain.html To make an accurate model, you would need to lower the PRS car body as described in the articles mentioned above (in short,, remove six inches below the eves, then put the eve strip back onto the sides). For the B6 you would then sand the ends smooth, replicate the taller plate ends with styrene and Archer rivets, and add the X29 roof. The Jim Six article goes for effect, and even the author might argue that if you have to decal the car the conversion is less worthwhile (he used a model X29 that came pre-painted for SAL). I should mention in passing that Archer has emailed that they have a sale on the railroad rivet decals - three sets plus their catalog for $35, which basically is one set plus the catalog free. http://archertransfers.com/ Pieter E.
