Awhile ago there was a thread about running Flyer on DC instead of AC. I don't want to re-start the whole darn thread again, but I do have a couple of questions. For awhile now I have been thinking about buying a high-end DC powerpack (such as an MRC 6200 which is really intended for G scale). I would use it to run not only universal-motor Flyer on DC, but also modern hi-rail trains that are DC only.
I thought of this purchase again when I noticed that the S-helper F-7's are $199 if you buy DC-only, but $299 if you buy AC/DC. So the questions are: 1. Has anybody tried running both u-m Flyer and modern DC-only trains on a DC powerpack of appropriate size? If so, what kind of results did you get? Any problems/pitfalls? 2. What kind of Flyer operating cars and accessories, if any, won't run on DC? Items equipped with vibrators, such as the cattle yard? Or do solenoids have problems too? Thanks in advance.
