The 697 trips, I feel, are more reliable. The electric track trips are more reliable still. I have about 7 trips wired into my layout so the trains can throw their own switches and activate a semaphore. I can run two trains at once without intervention and watch them wind through the various loops of my layout. I have all the track trip power leads running through a toggle switch. One flip of the switch cuts out all the trips and I can run the trains by hand.
