I have two Lionel gondola bodies which are the following: No. 6462 NYC Measuring: 51 feet long by 11 feet wide in "S" or 39 feet long by 8 1/4 feet wide in "O" Color: Black with eleven verticle braces on each side.
No. 9031 NKP Measuring: 42 1/4 feet long by 11 feet wide in "S" or 31 1/2 feet long by 8 1/4 feet wide in "O" Color: Sort of Brown or Box Car Red with nine verticle braces on each side. My question is: Is there an internet or plain old fashioned book reference that someone in our "astute group" can suggest to me that would give some idea as to what prototypes would correspond to either or both of these items? Neither of the car bodies still have trucks. From the little I have found on "The Net", neither of these cars are rare. The 6462 NYC car is almost twenty five years older than the NKP No. 9031.6462 was produced from about 1948 until 1958, while 9031 was seen around the early 1970's. Both cars look as though they would be OK for "S" if given "S" trucks. I do at the very least, like to make my stuff appear as close to the prototype as possible. I would "of course" have to remove the "L" word off of both cars. We couldn't have that now could we? (Toungue In Cheek Here) Anyway, this is a great goup of folks and I am glad to have joined.
