The trucks on the cars are not plastic but are die cast metal as in the past and ARE as advertised in the catalog. They say nothing about sprung trucks?
There is more slop in the PA unit's truck yokes than in some of earlier production runs but my LTI SantaFe PAs and many Geeps have the same problem so this is nothing new. It is a minor, correctable problem but should have been corrected at the factory not by the user. My big complaint is the sorry sounding horn and that the PA's trucks are silver instead of black to match the cars. The graphics and packaging are outstanding, and runs adequately but still needs to geared down. It is a very handsome set and will see a lot of run time on my layout. I am adding railsounds and TMCC to it soon with the Black side frames and Electrocouplers :-) IMHO, Carl -----Original Message----- From: AF336 [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 03, 2003 2:22 PM To: s-trains Subject: Re: [S-Trains] Lionel AF NYC Passenger Cars I don't have this set, but I have seen some similar things on other LTI/Flyer. Out of curiosity I was wondering what type of track you were running your NYC PA units on...If it is S-helper track you will need to regauge the trucks. At least that has been my experience with all LTI/Flyer stuff on S-helper. The contact shoes need to be tweaked so that they will not run off the top of the rail of the thinner S-helper rail. (the regauging of the wheels wider may be enough to stop this little problem) If you want to get them to negotiate S-helper turnouts you need to do some other things. Also, I have fixed the rocking in this manner. The trucks are retained to the frame by insulating washers and a "c" clip retainer. (simiar to old flyer, but the tolerences were not held) The groove on the shaft is located far enough away that there is a lot of end play and rocking. I have some 20mm O.D. x 1mm thick washers that were about the right I.D. for the truck pivot shafts and I put them between the ring and the fiber washer and that made the mounting much more firm and my rocking was significantly reduced. (this really isn't a permanent mod. as you can remove the washers) It is a shame that these kind of things are necessary. I didn't buy this new passenger set, so I didn't realize the trucks were plastic. That really stinks..... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron Inscho" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; "Alan C Udy" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, January 03, 2003 11:04 AM Subject: Re: [S-Trains] Lionel AF NYC Passenger Cars > I bought one of these poor excuses for a train also, & while the paint & > lettering are good , the trucks are as you pointed out not what they said > they would be. also did you or anyone else noticed how loose & xtra high the > trucks on the engs.are?
