Just one minor note: S Helper Service track is Code 125 -- representing 155lb. mainline rail (the standard of the PRR)... American Models is Code 148. I must admit to having trouble keeping these straight and making the correct correlation between code and rail weight -- had this problem especially in N scale. Now I just refer to:
http://www.urbaneagle.com/data/RRrailsizes.html and it helps keep me straight. I had looked at a number of options to install Code 100 track on my layout under construction -- both flex and hand laying. I eventually decided to hand lay. But after seeing and handling S Helper's Code 125 flex track, I opted to switch to that for the mainline. It has to be the easiest flex track I have ever worked with. And I'll hand lay the turnouts, since that is really where most of the expense is from the perspective of buying ready to use track and turnouts. Of course one thing I've learned is that it my chosen solution is not always (usually?) someone else's solutions....so your mileage may vary.
