Bossman, There was an earlier in the month post that expressed disappointment with the beer colored water in the Lionel Water Pump Tower. I sent him a picture of the Gilbert Reproduction one we used (clear water) and we have been very happy with it. I think the Gilbert Reproductions were made in the former Iron Curtain countries under private manufacture contract to Triple SSS.
The product line is available at Triple SSS Supplies which has an Internet page. The Gilbert Reproductions cost a little more, but do seem better made. Maybe we can get them to do a Gabe that works without cheap solenoids! For those who wish to see the Gilbert Reproductions in action on the display set view the following: http://66.246.35.207/~pyorke/albums/albums/album80/08_G.jpg Scott Dee -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, February 19, 2003 10:14 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [S-Trains] MTH/Lionel accessories I have used both of these makers with a Gabe and with a sawmill. The MTH Gabe seems to be the better of the two, but it too has drawbacks. I think the coils in both of these are too light and fragile. After my Grandson has pounded the MTH ceaselessly for 15 minutes or so it starts slowing down and skipping a step now and then. The Lionel seem to fail even sooner. It's just plain old electrical engineering I think. The coils heat up, the resistance goes up, less current to activate the action and failure on the horizon. As to the Lionel 772 water tower, what perverted troll dreamed up the amber water tube? Looks more like sewage than water. I was duped because the catalog shows it as a clear tube ALA the original Gilbert. I quickly sold mine and bought a "Gilbert Reproductions" model. Almost dead on to the original except the gray color of the base is slightly darker.
