Harald: I think metalinks are great, indeed, the metalink file you reference contains a torrent file reference: http://sagemath.org/mirror/win/meta/sage-vmware-4.4.alpha0.zip.torrent The only problem is that there is no bittorrent server up right now seeding that torrent file, thus obviating the entry/file. I'm all for promoting other clients, but bittorrent is widespread, stable, and built-in to some browsers already (example: Opera).
