Well, after some poking around, it seems it's a mistake to confuse eglibc and glibc, especially when considering upstream friendliness to suggestions/bug reports/patches ; here is a blog post about the debian developper which uploaded eglibc in debian : http://blog.aurel32.net/47 (now eglibc is the default libc in debian, and hence in ubuntu) So perhaps that isn't such a bad idea to try to fix the issue at its root : in eglibc!
