I'm having the same problem.  Sage 3.1.4 works but after upgrading to
3.4 the notebook command appears to fail and goes back to the sage
login menu.  I'm using VMware Workstation 6.5.2, the OS is WinXP sp3,
and the machine has 1.5 GB of memory.
