FWIW, at my home computer (also running Debian Sid, where Sage still works)
I cannot compile 10.7 either.
It seems to be a problem with maxima:
[...]
spkg-install] /usr/bin/bash
/home/finotti/src/sage-10.7/local/var/tmp/sage/build/maxima-5.47.0/src/install-sh
-d /home/finotti/src/
sage-10.7/local/var/tmp/sage/build/maxima-5.47.0/inst
[spkg-install]
[spkg-install] Now installing the Maxima library as
'/home/finotti/src/sage-10.7/local/lib/ecl/maxima.fas'...
[spkg-install] cp: cannot stat 'src/binary-ecl/maxima.fas': No such file or
directory
[spkg-install]

maxima is already installed, though:
maxima:
Installed: 5.47.0-8
Candidate: 5.47.0-8
Version table:
*** 5.47.0-8 500

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
So is maxima-sage, but with a different version:
maxima-sage:
Installed: 5.45.1-2+b2
Candidate: 5.45.1-2+b2
Version table:
*** 5.45.1-2+b2 500
