From within the SETUP you can configure SA to accept traps. You can limit
what traps you want to accept by IP of the trap sender. The only thing SA can do with
the traps it receives is display them on the webpage (template based).

Thanks Kevin I will look at those sites. I am confused by the ability
to send traps and monitoring OID. I understand that SA 4 will be able to accept traps
– how would you configure a monitor for this if you don’t use the OID? Is there a
method that I missed in the SA screens?

Go to http://www.wtcs.org/snmp4tpc/, browse through the info and get a
copy of GetIf. This will let you walk the SNMP tree for your devices. There are two
sites I use to get SNMP info - http://www.somix.com/support/mib_resources.php and
http://www.mibdepot.com/index.shtml.

Once you have the OID you want to monitor use Getif to find it and
whether or not it has a value. Not all will actually return values. BackupExec, at
least the last version I looked at, only supports sending traps not monitoring via OID.

Does anyone know any good documentation for SNMP or is there
any more documentation on SA’s monitoring of it – I want to just watch a few
items on a Compaq server (Power Supply and RAID controller and Backup Exec and I have
some OID’s but cannot seem to get anything to work.
