So if the new checks are working okay, but the old checks aren't, I'd guess there's a difference between the domain/username/password setup on the old checks versus the new checks.
Does more than one check fail at a time? For example, do all of the old checks fail at once, or is it just one at a time? Check the Windows event logs on the machine running SA.
