Dirk,

Thank you very much for the upcoming functionality in v5, I am sure I will be able to make use of this.

The way you will be implementing this feature however originally came from a single users request to meet their own specific requirement, I do believe that my suggested implementation could be regarded as generic as it has no connection to anything that is not already part of SA and requires no interaction with anything specific to my installation in order to be a valid function.

I look forward to be able to make use of the new functionality you are coding.

Thanks again, and I appreciate the lively debate, much more refreshing than a straight 'we will not be doing this' type or reply that is often the best you get from the providers of most software. I am sure you will continue to reap the benefits with further awards for your software.

Regards,

Andy

I can agree that some feature can be useless for you because you don't use them, but those feature are generic. The WAP feature (using your example) is a generic WAP output. It's not targeted to one specific wap device.

"maintenance until" is also very generic, the way you want the "maintenance until " to work (or also to work) is no longer generic but tailored to your needs.

As said before "maintenance until" will be in v5, in fact the code for it has been written in the last few days. (all except the GUI part of it).

Dirk,

I agree that this would make it useless on most checks, if they have a check schedule that is enabled 24x7, however on those that the functionality was required, and the check schedule was set up to monitor only specific times of the day / week etc., it would be there, and make the program more robust and resilient to those users who could make use of this functionality.

The option to create a WAP page for output is completely useless as far as my implementation is concerned, but for those users who make use of the functionality I am sure they would not be without it, and they are forever grateful that you added this to the program.

There are other features that I do not use and have no requirement to use, but they are there because yourself or others have a requirement for them, or have requested these features, just because I do not use these features does not make them any less valid in being part of the program.

What Michael propose is to calculate the next schedule time if the entry has a schedule. Well all entries have a schedule so in 99% of the cases that extra option is useless.

Brad,

this is a nice summary, and thanks for putting so elegantly what I was try to get across.

Dirk,

I apologies if my last reply regarding how to 'calculate the next scheduled check' appeared flippant or caused offence.

I am only try to assist in helping you create a more refined / resilient product.

Other forum members seem to have agreed with my request, so this isn't just a requirement peculiar to my installation.

I will be only too happy to make use of the option you are planning already.

Is it really that difficult to implement this functionality in the way that Michael Shook describes;

"This could be inserted into the right click menu as two options, one for the user to enter a time period, and a second to set the 'maintenance until' to when the check is set to go on 'maintenance by schedule' as an internal calculation?"

Thanks for your continued support of your excellent product.

Andy
