I had this issue last April. I stopped using the SMTP2POP3 check because of it. See that original thread to see what I tried at:

I receive this same error. AS well as a problem with one of the dlls for
the ODBC com check. A restart of Salive fixes the issue. I have not come
up with a reason for the failure nor a pattern as to when it happens.

Dirk,

This looked me up this morning:

INBOUND MAILFLOW CHECK is DOWN ERR docheck : Component 'pops50.ocx' or one
of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid(
339- 0)

Mail generated by Servers Alive at Wednesday, November 17, 2004 12:07:17 AM.

No changes. It's been running for two weeks without errors. The server is
dedicated to SA and is rebooted weekly

The rest of SA (and associated plug-ins) has turned in rock solid
performance. This plug-in appears to be the primary exception based on
previous reports to this list.

Would very much like to use this again in the future, once the root cause is
understood and resolved.

Thanks for your time.

-William
