We typically are looking for file system, cpu, and memory utilization, and running processes. Linux has the widest useage, while my personal preference is for OpenBSD.
Licensing is always the sticky part. A site license would seem to be the best way to minimize your revenue. :-) If you price it too high the smaller to mid-size shops won't use it. Price it too low and everyone will use it and you won't make enough to cover the cost of supporting it. I'd think a per system method would be best.
