But, can it be done?

You have both group and dependencies, that's correct.
But an entry depends on another entry OR is part of a group, not both.
So this is not just a GUI change, but a logical change too.

For me, the biggest impact would be to have 2 different ways of
displaying and organizeing the checks.

1) by logical group
2) by dependencies

Since you have both these data elements, let the GUI display both. Let
me organize by logical group regardless of the physical dependencies,
and let me make checks dependant regardless of what group they're in.

This way I can have a dependant check order (ping to SQL Service to data
query) but still have all pings in a group (called Networking) all
services in a group (called Admin) and all data queries in a group
(called Support)

This would enable the next biggest impact for me: have the ability for
Group wide alerts at the Group level (so all check members of the Admin
group get these alerts). I have very few individual checks with unique
alerts, but rather all networking errors so to the same people, all
support alerts go to those people, etc...

Servers Alive exists since some time :-) The GUI didn't change a lot
since day 1.
We think it's time for some change.

The change should be "just" a GUI change not adding
features/functionality.

If you have some good ideas or have some examples that we could use (as
idea), well then just send them over :-)
