I also use u...@vnc (mailto:u...@vnc). Without the display/mirror driver, you
can see CPU usage up to 40-60%, but with the display driver running, CPU usage
is well below 10-15%, similar to RDP or pcAnywhere.

Just make sure you install it in person as may require a reboot and can shut
off VNC while waiting for a prompt.

I use u...@vnc on my server to control and it works fine. I only have 153
checks but they check both local and remote servers and include windows service
checks, unix, checks, file count, file properties, HTML, etc.

I do not use the VNC to the server unless there is a problem. We use a web
page and email/sms alerts only.

Perhaps he was suggesting that if you use VNC to monitor the app while it is
running and update the interface too while it is running it would use a lot of
resources.

Hi Ian,

Again, apologies for the late response to this thread.

If you suggest NOT running VNC on the servers hosting SA, what do you suggest
using as a remote access client?

For example, I am in Arizona and my SA server (standard version 6.2.2279
running on Win2k3SP2) is located in New York.

Many thanks,

Paul-

Tim,

10 mins sounds like a very long time for a check cycle. Are you running VNC on
the SA server? (Suggest you don't as it has a dramatic effect on performance.)
Is your SA GUI set to update the interface during the check cycle in Setup -
General - Interface Settings? (Again, strongly suggest you don't as this will
*hugely* impact speed - turning this off took our check cycle down from about 8
mins to about 1.)

Cheers,

Ian

At the moment, webpages are created right at the end of the check cycle. Could
an option be added to recreate the page if a check on it changes? Our check
cycle takes 10 mins or so and we have a custom web page showing what it up and
down. That page can therefore be 10 mins out of date.

We get the emails of course, but management like to look at the web page J
