yup - infact with MAME you can play the original arcade game! crazy!

This whole argument was ALMOST relevant about five years ago when things in
the SAM scene were still going, but even the biggest optimist would have to
admit that the thing is dead dead dead now. Maybe Colin Piggot makes a few
pennies out of it, but I'm more convinced he does it for the love of the
scene (and more power to him!).

But old games on an old machine have NO commercial value and trying to
restrict their use only kills off what is already a dead dido dodo of a
scene already.

If somebody new came to me today and wanted to find out more about the SAM,
what could I 'legally' show them?

Jack spratt all.

The entire SAM scene was badly managed by a few people who were made into
'mini celebrities' because they were able to cobble together crappy games
and make a couple of hundred quid out of them and they are still trying to
scrape the last few pence out of it.

Give it up. All the good SAM coders have gone on to bigger and better things
and still work in the industry and all the crap ones who tagged on 16 colour
splodges of mess onto a Spectrum Basic program and tried to sell it to us
(whilst all our friends had Amiga's) for £15 are still there trying to play
'Mr Big' still.

The best game ever made for the SAM was Defender, and Chris gave that away,
on the internet, for NOTHING.

Now THAT is what I call promoting the SAM scene, not hanging on to the
rights for bodged spectrum games and wierd puzzle games from Eastern Europe
with irritating soundtracks.

And now, I shall rest!

see you around

Johnna

The only reason you're getting animated is because it's stupid. You can
download Robot Monsters for the spectrum (and a few others I'll wager) for
nothing, but when you try to do the same for the SAM version you're told
you'll have to pay!

And when you try to contact Gav, the website www.samcommunity.org is down!!!
