Chris, Many are free but keep in mind that you will be using additional bandwidth as you add to the number of RBL's you list. If there are three RBL's in your list and a mail server hits your system with a message it must inquire of the 1st rbl in your list, get a good or bad reply, then it the answer is good, check the 2nd RBL and get a good or bad reply and if good again, finally check the 3rd rbl for a good or bad. So that's 3 inquery's and 3 answers to process. If during the process it gets a bad (the ip is listed as a spammer) then it stops the process, lists the spammer in the SMTP log and immediately terminates the conversation with the other server. If it is good (the ip is not listed) then it receives the data (message) and passes it on to the MTA for distribution to the listed recipients in the envelope. While you might be ready to pick a whole bunch of RBL's (to really cull down the spam) it can really pay dividends to study your SMTP log and see which of the RBL's are catching most of the spam since your good messages have to be checked by every rbl in your list and you pay for this service in bandwidth.
