+1 from me.  Although I don't think that just copying the best bits from 
both is the right starting point.  I think we need to generate a list of 
requirements and white board the solution as a better starting point 
without any reference to the 2 implementations that we currently have.  If 
at the end of this we can copy bits from either of the solutions I would 
be more comfortable knowing that we were doing it for the right reason.
