The server in question is indeed a linux one. If you'd like I can
link to the host we are looking at, though you may need google
translate:

And here is the software they currently have on their python servers
(in addition to py25-MySQLdb, py25-django, py25-imaging, py25-
pysqlite, ImageMagick 6.3.x, GraphicsMagick 1.1.x):

The hosting company seems to be a little flexible on possibly
installing an app or two, but I gather asking them to install a whole
plethera of apps including an alpha of satchmo might be pushing things
a bit much.

The business reason we aren't going with VPS, is that we are a new web
development company in a more remote city in China, seeking to help
the local community. Local businesses are not often willing to pay
the extra premium for VPS hosting, and even if they were, they
wouldn't be able to maintain the server themselves as easily - thus
forcing us to do more maintainance in the long run. It'd be much
easier if we could reliably get a satchmo app running on one of these
shared packages, and then be easily able to reporoduce the
functionality for each customer.

Help me out here, guys - just telling me I have to have a VPS for each
customer is essentially saying that I have to switch our shop to PHP.
Trust me - I don't want to hear that. ;-)
