Keep in mind that this is based on experience with "Zebra" printers at
a large pharma company.

1) This isn't a Satchmo issue.  Support for a given printer is
generally outside the scope of your invoicing software or ERP
software.  It's generally within the realm of the drivers for your
printing system (Be it cups with its backends, or Windows, or
something like UniQ)
2) You're going to have a pile of fun if your choice in printer isn't
supported by whatever printing system you choose.

So, you might want to have a chat with your printer vendor(s) to
determine useful things like "Is this printer supported by the drivers
for my printing system?"
And you probably want to have a chat with the vendor to find out
whether the printer is character oriented, vector oriented, or raster
oriented.  Because if it's character oriented you may have to create a
driver to convert from some flavor of document markup language to
properly formatted ascii text.  If it's vector or raster oriented,
feeding the driver may be perfectly fine.
