I had no Linux experience and got myself a Linode slice last month. Was forced to, actually, because my shared host complained about high CPU usage and shut down my site.
The Linode IRC was very helpful. I also wrote a Getting Started guide on the Linode wiki to help people who were moving from shared hosts and don't know much about Linux (except maybe ls -l) http://www.linode.com/wiki/index.php/Getting_started is about setting up Apache, MySQL, PHP and APC caching. Rob, what config changes would you suggest to the default Ubuntu install that they offer? Nick Jasuja --- www.diffen.com Diffen. Discern. Decide.
