Follow-up Comment #3:
a) The backends scripts sv_groups and sv_users will create unix accounts for
groups and users on the system without taking care of mapping the id
(numbers) in the database; it only deals with the unix name (as defined in my
previous post).
The implications of that is giving an account to the server to users. Unless
you need to do that (because you offer a service that rely on shell access ;
because you need to create ftp directories for groups), you should not do it,
security-wise.
Moreover, if you need to provide accounts with shell access (or ftp access,
whatever), we recommend that you do it on a distinct server than the one
running the web interface.
b) That's in savane/frontend/php/register/confirmation.php
There's a part that make auto-approval for the admin project.
