I had already found the unescaped @ last night:

topos:savane# grep topos /etc/savannah/savannah.conf.pl
        our $sys_default_domain="topos.ucd.ie";
        our $sys_https_host="topos.ucd.ie";
        our $sys_dbhost="localhost:/home/topos/www/mysql/mysql.sock";
        our $sys_mail_replyto="[EMAIL PROTECTED]";

I am not running Apache 2.  I am running Apache 1.3.29, the stock, secure
httpd on OpenBSD.

Any other ideas?
