Other than that, I can only point to the <output>.start/stop commands: try to use them, it might help if the problem is really on the output side (and if it helps please confirm it here); it will not help if the bug is in the source that you plug on your output -- on that aspect, make sure to use a toplevel fallback to an infallible single file instead of mksafe() for example.
