>Hi John,
>Which codec were you using for video, theora?

Yes

>Well, if you are planning to encode and stream video around the clock, you
are likely to need better hardware than for audio only, just to keep the
machine running at a reasonable load average.

We intend running 24/7 with many repeated programs, in different time slots
for world coverage

The LS docs say if you are thinking of > 500x500 video it probably won't
work - they are right. It really struggles on 480p. Direct (non LS)
streaming it handled with ease - hardly breaking a sweat.

Intel i5 2400
Sandy Bridge
4 core
4 threads
3.1+ GHz
16 GB DDR3
2 x 2 TB Sata II
100 Mbit

>The only case I can think of for rendering video in non-real-time is if you
are only producing content for a certain number of hours per day, and you
have off-air time to catch up. Then you upload to YouTube or whatever and
begin the cycle again.

I am hoping there is enough slack to do it in a throttled thread.

>Please mail me offlist, I can introduce you to the other community members
interested in developing video support. As for realistic, that only depends
on how much time and effort the community wants to put into this.

Will do

>I am told by public and community broadcasters in Europe that there is
currently no ready-made open source solution for running a TV station, so
it's not like we are re-inventing the wheel.

I found some attempts - but clunky/unusable/half-abandoned which is why I am
here. Casper-based solutions seem do-able.. If you have a few years
spare....... ;)

Your Airtime installer just fell over - oh well
