Actually, it was the same way in Scid as well. See my other

As you name it: actually Scid works like an editor right
now, and you can edit multiple files. It is IMHO perfectly
logic. Still, the more I think about Gerds comment the more
it seems appearant that you do hardly want to edit multiple
files, but that the main point is to work with one single
file at a time. (File meaning just a single record in the
database or more simple put: the game you're analysing :)

Sure. Scid has to collect the statistics and do the bean
counting. If you want an updated tree it has to search.
The reason to set the filter to this result is as it allows
you to access the opening report from that position on
easily. This was also a very recent change.
You can avoid automatic update, however. Click on the
magnifyer glass. It gets crossed, no automatic updates
anymore.
BTW: it might, however, be sensible if Scid stoped updating
the tree itself if the last tree was already empty. But I'll
let some other user make this suggestion ;)
