I will start the merry chase again -- does anyone have a valid Python for the above?

SL6 has python27 in 6rolling/testing
http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/6rolling/testing/x86_64/python27/
but I don't see the source as a starting point for SL5.
