This is a horribly inappropriate comparison--for now--but the change in pacing, characterization, and tone reminds me of the shift from Tim Burton's first two Batman movies, to when Schumacher took over. The one with Val Kilmer--"Batman Forever"--wasn't horrible, but it was a major reduction in maturity and writing over what had come before...

She doesn't stand out amongst all those who have traveled with him. I'm ready for the Doctor to regenerate and for Amy Pond to go back home. I kept waiting for the show to feel creepy and suspenseful, and it just felt...there. The pacing remains too fast, with lots of scene cuts, the Doctor pretty much going from relaxed to panicked, but there seems to be no underlying strong writing to bolster all the surface action. There were a couple of moments--SPOILERS--such as when the dead soldier's voice is being used by the Angels, and the realization that the army of Angels is waking up. But they go from slow to hyper so quickly, i don't get to feel the buildup of drama or tension. I'm also not feeling his Companion quite yet. Her character's a bit sketchy. Even Alex Kingston--a really gifted actress--came off as a bit bland. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mr. Worf" < hellomahog...@gmail.com > To: scifinoir2@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, May 9, 2010 2:20:39 AM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [scifinoir2] Weeping Angels Return to "Dr. Who" I just watched the show. They ended the first part rather abruptly. I was so surprised that I thought my dvr cut off the last minute of it. The quality of writing has dropped dramatically this season. I will say, it didn't have quite the suspense and eerie feeling of the first ep. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adrianne Brennan" < adrianne.bren...@gmail.com > To: scifinoir2@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, May 8, 2010 9:47:15 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [scifinoir2] Weeping Angels Return to "Dr. Who" I won't spoil the ending, but needless to say...am unimpressed. ~ "Where love and magic meet" ~ http://www.adriannebrennan.com Experience the magic of the Dark Moon series: http://www.adriannebrennan.com/books.html#darkmoon Dare to take The Oath in this erotic fantasy series: http://www.adriannebrennan.com/books.html#the_oath The future of psychic sex - Dawn of the Seraphs (m/m): http://www.adriannebrennan.com/dawnoftheseraphs.html On Sat, May 8, 2010 at 9:11 PM, Keith Johnson < keithbjohn...@comcast.net > wrote: Lots of folks here have not felt any love for the new Dr. Who, but perhaps tonight's ep will be different?
