Although we can (and I do) provide Scintilla with a list of the characters that are valid in a word, RESearch.cxx insists that valid word characters are a-z A- Z 0-9 and _ and anything else is not a word character.
This means that if you are using a Basic-like langauge in which % and $ are allowed as part of an identifier, you cannot use \> to end a search.
