True, many people blow head gaskets with superchargers. I know a guy who
sold his Vortech because he was running 9 pounds of bosst and kept blowing
his head gaskets, and another who ran a Powerdyne with 9 pounds of boost and
had the same problem on a '95 Cobra. But, that has nothing to do with
running cool boost or if you have an intercooler or not. The 5.0 only has 10
head bolts per side, and when you pressurize the combustion chamber with a
blower it makes it hard to keep the heads on the block. The small block
Chevy in comparison, has 14 head bolts, or 15 per side. I forgot which. An
intercooler isn't going to prevent head gasket failure. Too much timing
and/or boost is what causes them to go, not weather or not an intercooler is
present. Getting a supercharger to work well is harder than most people
think, and harder than the supercharger manufacturers would like you to
believe. Most engine damage is caused by people who just simply don't set
their cars up properly. So you can just as easily blow a head gasket on a
5.0 or 4.6 with an ATI as you can with a Vortech, Paxton, or Kenne Bell
Whipplecharger.

We all know intercooling is the best thing

Yes intercoolers are very nice. And I think it's good that ATI offers
one. But you miss the point of this whole thread. It sounds as if your'e
taking this a little personally, and there's no reason to. I'm very happy
for you that you like your'e ATI and I hope it never gives you a problem.
You have the idea that any supercharger with an intercooler is better than
one without, no matter what the case. But it's not that simple and that's
all I was saying in my last long winded post. I have to agree with Matt
Miller in that no matter what type of contest or comparison you could come
up with, I doubt very much that ATI would ever be satisfied with the results
and refund your money. Think of it for second. If ATI did in fact lose such
a comparison and gave someone money this would totally destroy their sales.
Who in their right mind would buy an ATI if it was proven that an S-trim or
Paxton outperformed it? This is something that will never be proved
scientifically because ATI is totally f*cked if they lose. They have spoken
many big words and promised big noise for a long time. If they lost, they
would be the laughing stock of the Mustang aftermarket. There are so many
variables in a comparison like this. The only way to do it properly is to
have one test engine watched under very close scrutiny and then perform back
to back testing on an accurate dyno. Bench racing isn't going to do it.

I don't own a supercharger, that's true. What I wrote is part opinion,
part fact. I said which blower I wanted, which may be totally different for
any number of reasons from what someone else thinks is the best. And that's
OK. And no, all of my opinions are not from anti-ATI owners. I am capable of
thinking on my own and making my own decisions. I have done a lot of reading
and research and spoken with lots of people who know a lot about all kinds
of blowers. Also, the market is what I look at too. Vortech is the top
seller for very soild reasons I wrote about in my last post. Paxton is my
favorite, but they are expensive and you really can't go wrong with a
Vortech. ATI is a good blower, don't get me wrong. It's just not my choice.
I don't like their smug attitude of superiority and their marketing
gimmicks. Now I'm sure an ATI will work quite well on my 5.0 and I'm sure
your 4.6 goes like gangbusters. But there is a reason why ATI doesn't
outsell Vortech. If the ATI's were so clearly superior, Vortech and Paxton
would be left in the dust as ATI became the next Microsoft of the Mustang
blower market.
Your'e getting a bit defensive about your purchase of the ATI and there
really is no reason to. I'm not saying that ATI blowers suck and people who
buy them are stupid. They work very well, and there are many reasons to buy
them. But there are also reasons not to buy them. I wish you well with your
ATI. Have fun with it and go blow the doors of a guy with a Vortech.
