Hi all, Just a quick question that some of you may be able to help with. Last night I was playing with my hard drives, rearranging them etc. This had the effect of changing drive ids. What was hda1 is now hde1. So I managed to get lilo to boot my linux machine by specifying a root ie linux root = /dev/hde5 It boots but then complains that it can't get access to the specified partitions, ie it want to get access to hda6, but it should now point to hde6 etc. So I thought I should just change the entries in /etc/fstab The problem is that it keeps complaining that the drive is read only, when I try to write to the fstab file. So I tried mounting /dev/hde5 into /home to see if I could change it from there, again no luck. Also if I just type mount I get (along the lines of) /dev/hda5 ext2 / Which should of course be /dev/hde5 ext2 / Anyone give me any pointers as to how I can change the fstab file so my machine will reboot. If not, don't worry I was going to redo my machine this weekend anyway :) Cheers Bob -------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.lug.org.uk http://www.linuxportal.co.uk http://www.linuxjob.co.uk http://www.linuxshop.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------
