Hi, well I mean if all the compatibility issues are just about PHP deprecated warnings there is not much to worry, but if the compatibility issues mean that we see fatal errors it would have a way higher impact. This would mean we can`t run 4.0.x and 4.1.x systems on the same server. We had a similar issue with the switch from eZ 3.6 to 3.7. If the second assumption with the fatal errors is the case, I would vote for merging back the 5.3 changes into stable/4.0. Andre it would be nice, if you could raise this issue with the rest of the dev team.

Merging to 4.0 is debatable, personally I don't like merging stuff that are not bug or security issues to stable branches, especially not mature stable branches like 4.0.
