Yes. Just run both on php 5.2 ?

True I could run both on 5.2, but I would like to benefit the speed
improvements in 5.3 and future bug fixes/features. In that case I would also
expect that future 4.x series would also run on 5.2 so that we do not make use
of features of the 5.3 like namespaces or other fancy stuff.
No plans to do that before 6.0 is out at least.
So we do not corner ourselves into a specific php version again.

But PHP 5.3 should not cause any fatal errors in ezp 4.x, if it does, then we will of course back port fixes to 4.0.y.
(given that we find them before 4.2 is out)

Hi,

well I mean if all the compatibility issues are just about PHP deprecated
warnings there is not much to worry, but if the compatibility issues mean that
we see fatal errors it would have a way higher impact. This would mean we can`t
run 4.0.x and 4.1.x systems on the same server.
Yes. Just run both on php 5.2 ?
We had a similar issue with the switch from eZ 3.6 to 3.7. If the second
assumption with the fatal errors is the case, I would vote for merging back the
5.3 changes into stable/4.0. Andre it would be nice, if you could raise this
issue with the rest of the dev team.

The commits are in trunk only atm, they will be merged to 4.1.x when
everything is there (still some ereg calls left, and support for new
error levels).

Merging to 4.0 is debatable, personally I don't like merging stuff that
are not bug or security issues to stable branches, especially not mature
stable branches like 4.0.

Hi,

I have seen some php 5.3 specific commits in the logs lately. I am wondering,
if we can run for example a 4.0.x on php 5.3 or is 4.0.x is meant to run on php
5.2. Is there anyone that can answer this question?

Best regards,
