What I would like to know though is were the selection comittee
aware that PCM planned to list thier selection without having first
booked or even contacted the artists involved?

I probably didn't make much sense in my last post ...

I think people are getting the lists of performers mixed up. The
list they were referring to in the paper (the one they had compiled
before contacting anyone) was internal.

Lots of time and events passed between that and the list they finally
released to the public.

No surprise.

Hey man its a shame because If PCM continue to disrespect guys like these
and lose all support of the Detroit techno community, then the rest of the
world is soon gonna follow. People have way too much respect for guys like
UR and Derrick to continue supporting an event that continues to flex its
commercial muscle over the scene and music they have built. When you think
it was partly the vision of guys like Derrick and Carl that gave birth to
the DEMF to begin with, only to then publicly diss Carl and now show an
utter lack of respect to the professionalism of many other Detroit artists,
right down to the tiniest detail of having Derrick on the website homepage
after he had voiced his distance from the whole project. Maybe I've got it
all wrong, hey what do I really know. What I would like to know though is
were the selection comittee aware that PCM planned to list thier selection

For both editions the official photographer was Joe Vaughn. Last year he
probably made tons of pictures because he was constantly all over the place.
Never saw any of them though, unfortunatly. He also made a reportage of

Yeah. This was supposed to be published in a magazine somewhere. Perhaps,
I'm jaded by all of this, but could that be the reason the pics were never
published? I'd love to see that pic he took of me and two technotourists -

2002-04-15 Thread stewart
Well if its been esatblished that this is thier selection policy then I missed
that, but what the hell!! Sorry if this has been discussed to death, but surely
that breaks every ethical rule of party promotion in the book. Firstly it seems
kinda presumptious to assume that DJs who may well have prior bookings across
that weekend will drop everything and dissapoint those looking forward to
hearing them at prebooked and planned parties and secondly did it not occur to
them that some artists, who they might even have contracted through more
appropriate channels, would end up dissing the event through thier sheer
audicity.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but it really seems like a huge mess and one thats
gonna really harm the festivals reputation.

Just my 2 pence worth

I really don't think that's how it happened. They come up with a
wish list and work from there ... the artists that are listed now are
booked AFAIK. We were not supposed to see the list that was posted
at noon, and PCM has said so in the press.
