Re: [313] official DEMF lineup up
Of course, an interesting semantics argument could be made - is this the "Detroit Electronic Music Festival" as in, a festival of electronic music held in Detroit? If so, then anything goes - from all over the world, in any electronic music style. that's the way I've always read the title ... doesn't the other way keep Detroit techno provincial to some degree? I think there's a balance that needs to be struck between the two. -d -- - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, I just saw Aphex a few weeks ago at All Tomorrow's Parties, and at this stage, he just lies down at the front of the stage and plays some old Drum'n'Bass records and tosses out some Aphex madness from his laptop, and that's what passes for "Aphex Twin live". He doesn't really do anything that could be considered "Detroit-influenced", in the same way that, say, Autechre could be considered to have been Detroit-influenced (witness Sean's often-worn "69" t-shirt, for example). So, in that regard, Aphex wouldn't be all that appropriate. (Ultimately, I'd have to say that having Kraftwerk close down the main stage at the very end of the Festival would be the ultimate Now-I-can-die-happy moment for me. Can't Mad Mike and Rolando ring them up and beg them? :-) ) Of course, an interesting semantics argument could be made - is this the "Detroit Electronic Music Festival" as in, a festival of electronic music held in Detroit? If so, then anything goes - from all over the world, in any electronic music style. But instead, it's not really the case - it's a Festival of Detroit (and Detroit-influenced) Electronic Music. In that case, asking, say, Plaid to play and do old Black Dog tracks might be more appropriate :-) As for the RePLHeX all-stars, immediately after DEMF the RePHLeX Braindance Coincidence Tour is hitting LA, and presumably other US cities: DMX Krew (live PA) Bogdan Raczynski (live PA) Ovuca (live PA) Cylob (DJ set) Tour dates (NYC May 23rd, Toronto May 24th, Chicago May 25th - closest they get to Detroit, sorry) are at http://www.RePHLeX.COM/main_index.html - Greg - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Dear Mr. Kooky Scientist. With all fondness, due respect, and admiration of your music, etc. I think its time that you not continue to bring up the same story of you getting stuck with the hotel bil for the 4th or 5th time. The reason is that 1): you are an important techno artist with bad ass tracks that are hard to get and being nit-picky about this will just make you look bad. 2) I'm sure you are now getting more gigs due to the exposure from the DEMF and the money you get from the gigs I'm sure has made up for the hotel money a twice fold and then some, so please find it in your heart let it go. 3) If you are not responsible for any hotel fees, never put yor credit card down, just explain why you're not responsible and explain to them who will be responsible and leave the hotel 50 bucks for incidentals. And last but not least 4) DJ's and acts get dicked like that all the time...not just DEMF...its like...an occupational hazard so the only thing you can do is learn from the mistakes made and protect yourself next time. I don't mean anything bad or disrespect by this but you're just too important of an artist, you should be above it all. Thanks for reading. Peace, G. Re: [313] official DEMF lineup up
A Number of Names closing it out on the main stage tho!! nice!! that is a class decision there..wow.. maybe some of the live performances just arent noted. i assume black eyed peas and george clinton won't be spinning records. the lineup actually looks a lot nicer when it's laid out in the schedule...:) j _ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

dan sicko said: It actually says Drexciya!!! I know! But it doesn't say "Drexciya (live)" as mentioned in the interview on technotourist, i assume this is the first drexciyan dj performance. stewart said: Why did I have to start dating a girl whose not into techno and whose birthday is on the 25th May and who expects me to be here for her this year after I blew her off to go to Detroit last year? Tell me, why??? :) stewart, it's time to sever some ties...;P what do you see in this girl?? :P (im very kidding man..) catherine eberhardt said: Hmm, I am not too impressed with the line up. There are definately some great artists on the roster, but I keep seeing a repetitive Detroit i second that, aside from a few names i'm not too impressed. i'll be there tho, especially for the afterparties. two questions: in that detroit news article this morning, kevin saunderson states he will have nothing to do with this year's festival...!? and yet there he is listed...whats going on..? somebody changed his mind? 2nd...what's up with sponsorship this year? are we going to be bombarded with looping bacardi videos and airplanes flying banners etc etc again? given mitsubishi is running that retarded car commercial with the girl getting her rave-on in the car 50 times a day, i was half expecting to see them take ford's place... jt _ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] official DEMF lineup up
Hmm, I am not too impressed with the line up. There are definately some great artists on the roster, but I keep seeing a repetitive Detroit super hero collective. I wish that I could see more people like Claude Young, Jeff Mills, Dj Hell, Aphex Twin doing all his polygon window/caustic window stuff, something like that closing out a night. It's a pretty boring line up for me, I've seen almost everyone on there, and could see them again any day. I like the fact Chaos made the line up, they're a crazy live act. There are some good artists I'll be happy to see though, don't get me wrong. >>> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 04/12/02 12:45 PM >>> Why did I have to start dating a girl whose not into techno and whose birthday is on the 25th May and who expects me to be here for her this year after I blew her off to go to Detroit last year?
