Re: [AI] website tracker required
Hi ekinath, There is no solution on this from the point of an user, an administrator can write a small program to do this(website admin). However we can write a small program too and achieve this result the auto checker as you wanted. I was working in satyam infoway way back in 1997 at that time there was a dial up connection for Internet . We had written an auto dialer which shall first use satyam's Internet and calculate time taken to load 20 different websites then switch the competitors connection and repeat the download. This was useful in telling us the average speed of connections. The logic you need is different than the one explained above however I shared this for idea purpose. If you do not find an alternative reply / solution I shall write this program for you where you get the newly uploaded content on a particular website in an email as alert or the files directly to your inbox. All scanners support OCR software. actually it is the other way round. If the scanner is installed properly on the computer then all OCR software can make use of it. Plustech 3600 and Plustech 3600+ are being used widely. I have helped many people buy this. It is a fast scanner and has a unique bookedge design which improves accuracy. Cost is approx.. Re: [AI] regarding UGC NET
Yet to be announced and possibly in second half of october it should come. But you know its utmost difficult to get JRF for a person with disability because only 3% JRF out of 3200 can be given to PH candidates, not more than that. Say for e.g. in sociology total jrf are 100 out of india then only 3 jrf are to be given to top rankers from this subject. thats why this time in various subject jrf marit has gone higher than general, obc and sc st candidates. But since 'MGNREGA', which is hailed world's largest act to provide employment, and has potential to lift millions of lives out of poverty to some extent, has been rolled out in 3 phases, and now is in operation in the entire country. My concern is what disabled people have gained out of MGNREGA I am working on a project , 'what constitutes worker ' with special focus on MGNREGA And trying to do Economic Analysis of MGNREGA act. And suddenly, my mind mulled how MGNRWEGA has been helping Disabled in obtaining hundred days work and living life to some dignified level? And what are primary hurdles disabled face in convincing Nrega officials in availing work? As most of the workers are engaged in construction sites, Water-harvesting, and forest management activities, My concern is what are the arenas where Disabled, particularly blind can contribute. On 10/5/12, inamuddin wrote: Dear friends, as you are well aware that some 24 houres ago, I have posted some useful information regarding jaws 14 beta 2, In which I said that freedomscientific is about to release jaws 14 beta 2 with in the metter of day or two. Now you can download and enjoy it. Here is some useful information below Flexible Web Frequently, you will encounter Web pages that contain a lot of excess content which can make it difficult to locate the actual content you want, or interupts the flow when reading. For instance, many sites contain Google ad frames. These can be troublesome for JAWS users as they disrupt the reading order of surrounding content. Flexible Web enables you to take more control of Web pages by allowing you to quickly find the content you are looking for, as well as hide content that interrupts the reading experience. You can hide sections of content, such as Google ad frames or other types of unnecessary content, for a smoother reading experience. In addition, you could have JAWS begin reading at a level one heading, or ARIA main region, as these may contain the most interesting content. To use Flexible Web, open a Web page you want to customize in Internet Explorer or Firefox. Then, move the Virtual PC Cursor to the page element you want to hide, or from where you want to start reading when the page first loads. Activate the Flexible Web wizard by pressing the layered keystroke INSERT+SPACEBAR, X. Alternatively, press INSERT+F2 to open the Run JAWS Manager dialog box, then choose Flexible Web. Through several easy-to-follow steps, The Flexible Web wizard that opens provides you with two options: hide or start reading at the selected element. The wizard then guides you through the process of creating a temporary customization by giving you various choices about the selected element and how you want to hide it or from where exactly to start reading. Once the customization has been made, it is immediately applied to the page. For instance, if you choose to hide all frames containing advertisements, you will not see any advertisements when navigating the page after making this temporary customization. If you are not happy with how a customization is working, you can open the Flexible Web wizard to undo the last customization you made. When you return to the page, you can choose a different element or the same one, then reactivate the Flexible Web wizard to retry the customization again perhaps with different criteria. For example, in the case of hiding those advertisement frames mentioned earlier, you probably want to hide all of them, not just the first one on the page. The wizard will provide you with choices about whether to hide just the first one or all of them. You can create as many customizations for a page as you want. Once you have created one or more customizations, you can save them as a rule, which is applied every time you load the particular page or site. To indicate that a rule has been applied to a page, JAWS plays a sound after the page loads. Rules can be applied to the current Web page, entire Web site, or globally for all Web sites. Otherwise, customizations are only temporary and are lost as soon as you navigate away from the current Web page or close the browser. If you have made temporary customizations and you attempt to navigate to another page or close the browser, a dialog box opens asking if you want to save your customizations as a rule. To learn more about using Flexible Web, refer to the Flexible Web help topic in the JAWS online help (f1). In addition, the Freedom Scientific Training department will be demonstrating all of the capabilities of this exciting new feature in a free 1-hour webinar on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at noon. To register, go to the Free Webinars from Freedom Scientific page and choose the Register for free New in JAWS 14 - Part Two Webinar, October 24, 2012 button. here is my experience and hope this could help someone. Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, was launched in November 2011. It includes two accessibility features from previous Android versions: Talkback, the native screen reader (1.6), and Enhanced Web Access, a set of scripts for handling web views (3.0). It also introduces two important accessibility features: systemwide font size adjustments for low-vision users and Explore by Touch for blind users. All of these features are found in Settings under Accessibility, near the bottom of the list. Talkback is a screen reader. When enabled, it speaks the contents of the screen. If only the screen reader is enabled, on-screen controls are activated in the usual way. This means that, when a Bluetooth keyboard is paired to the device, blind users hear items spoken as they arrow around the screen, but if they touch the screen, they hear the items spoken and activate them at the same time-not ideal. To enable Talkback, go to Settings/Accessibility/Talkback. Touch the Enable checkbox, and when the confirmation screen asks if you're sure you want to give the accessibility service access to all your information, touch OK. Talkback should automatically download a TTS engine, but if it doesn't, plan to get one (ESpeak or Acapella) from the Play Store. Web scripts have been developed to make webviews accessible. In previous versions of Android, web views--found in many apps, browsers, and email readers-don't communicate with screen readers, so any information or controls presented in this way are not available to blind users. While the scripts are buggy, they increase the number of apps usable by blind individuals. To enable Web scripts, go to Settings/Accessibility, and check Enhanced Web Accessibility. Then touch Back or Home. With this item checked, the device runs the scripts when a webview is encountered. There is a delay while the scripts are loading, and there is often also a period of silence, as the screen reader or TTS crashes and recovers. Once the phone is speaking, Users can explore the screen with a finger to hear the contents. If they hear silence over an area of the screen, they can explore it withthe the virtual d-pad of the Eyes-Free keyboard. Font size can now be set to small, medium, or large for more comfortable reading, but there are still no settings for contrast or screen magnification. To set font size, go to Settings/Accessibility/Font. Touch the dropdown list. Touch the item you want. Touch OK. Then touch Back or Home. Explore by touchgives blind users access to the screen without the need for a physical navigational controller (i.e., arrow keys, a d-pad, trackball, or trackpad). With Explore by Touch enabled, blind users can hear the contents of the screen simply by exploring (sliding a finger over) it, and they can activate an icon by locating it, lifting the finger, and touching the icon again. To enable Explore by touch, go to Settings/Accessibility and touch the Explore by Touch check box. A confirmation screen appears, asking whether you're sure you want to enable the service. Touch OK. Then touch Back or Home twice. Once Explore by touch is enabled, controls need to be touched twice to be activated. The first touch causes them to be spoken. The second touch activates them. Once all accessibility services are enabled in ICS, it is time to use the device. There are very few gestures to learn, and once they are learned, users can follow instructions in the user's manual or on the web. The gestures require a little practice, some more than others. Again, once Explore by touch is enabled, controls need to be touched twice to be activated. The first touch causes them to be spoken. The second touch activates them. To short-press or activate an item, slide a finger to it. Lift your finger from the screen, and tap once in the same place. For best results, lift your finger only enough to break contact with the screen. To long-press an item, slide a finger to it. Lift your finger from the screen. touch the same place, keeping your finger on the screen until the phone vibrates and gives you more options. To pull down the notification bar, touch the top of the screen (so the phone tells you the time, battery status, etc.). Lift your finger. Then with two fingers, touch the top edge of the screen and slide both fingers down until you hear the phone say something like, "Notification shade pulled down." On some handsets, you can pull the notification bar down with one finger, instead of two. To scroll through a list, touch anywhere on the screen with one or two fingers. Lift your hand. Then touch the screen with two fingers and slide them up or down. When you touch the screen the first time, you're supposed to touch an item, but the gesture usually works even if you don't do that. In either case, if you slide your fingers up/down, then pause before sliding them up/down aga
Re: [AI] My first two weeks with Samsung S3
I always compare accessibility against the average user with sight. Since a sighted user doesn't need to have the 'explore by touch' or any other similar feature on, he or shee can quickly access the functionality of the phone, be it iPhone or an Android phone. Therefore, the touchscreen technology must undergo further changes to support tactical feedback on the screen. I'm not saying the blind folks cannot operate the touchscreen phones with existing solutions we have, all I'm saying is, it is very unreliable at times. Imagine your in a very noisy environment and you've forgotten your earphones and you want to use your phone. How will you deal with this situation? No matter how big of an expert you are, you'll find it bewildering to operate your phone. Isn't this a major drawback of whatever existing solutions we have in dealing with touchscreen devices? I'm not against this technology, but I'm concerned with our existing solutions / approach to deal with touchscreens. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Kiran Kaja Sent: 10 October 2012 02:59 To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] My first two weeks with Samsung S3 couple of tips for starters: It is important to understand the basic concepts of touchscreen accessibility. I do not think you can change the entire interface of the iPhone or iPad to Hindi. But if there is web content in Hindi like bbc.co.uk/Hindi, if you have enabled it, the iPhone switches to Hindi TTS for reading the text. Hindi is one of the options in Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Language Rotor. And the TTS quality is very good in my opinion. I am probably chipping in too late in this discussion but for blind users requiring screen reader support, Talkback really falls way behind VoiceOver. I did a couple of blog posts about my experience with Talkback and Android JellyBean here http://kirankaja12.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/random-thoughts-on-android-jelly bean-and-google-nexus-7-accessibility/ and http://kirankaja12.wordpress.com/2012/08/12/android-jellybean-accessibility- continued-books-music-movies-and-youtube/. And the Android JellyBean version hasn't hit the Samsung Galaxy S3 yet. if as a screen reader user, you still want to buy an Android handset, you may be better off buying one of the Google branded devices such as the Galaxy Nexus. This is because they are stock Android and do not have any additional skins/customised interfaces which usually do not work with Talkback. I believe there are also ways to install unofficial Android firmware on devices like Galaxy S3 but do it at your own risk. One other reason for selecting Android is the price. There are a lot of cheaper Android devices than either the iPhone and Galaxy S3. On the other hand if you are a partially sighted user, you may appreciate the large 4.8 inch display of the Galaxy S3. And I heard that text enlargement/screen magnification features will be improved in Android soon. I don't know if it will be as good as the Zoom feature on iOS however. Re: [AI] My first two weeks with Samsung S3
Thanks to Vasu for bringing this thread to my attention. There is a Hindi TTS on iOS. [AI] Using gestures in Android
Hi In android, the navigation is primarily by touch / gestures. I have listed some of them, which will help in quickly learn it. http://support.google.com/nexus/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2692469#content Accessibility gestures for Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) When Talkback and explore by Touch are turned on, you can use simple gestures to navigate your Nexus 7: •Drag one finger. Explore your screen and hear audible feedback for what is being touched. •Double-tap anywhere on the screen. Opens or activates the item that you last touched. •Swipe up or down using two fingers. Scroll within lists. •Swipe left or right using two fingers. Change pages and screens. •Swipe right (or down) using one finger. Move to the next item. •Swipe left (or up) using one finger. Move to the previous item. •Swipe down then up using a single motion. Transition to the next reading level when reading blocks of text, then swipe right to read forward or left to go back. •Swipe up then down using a single motion. Transition to the previous reading level when reading blocks of text, then swipe right to read forward or left to go back. •Swipe right then left using a single motion. Move to the next page. •Swipe left then right using a single motion. Move to the previous page. While you’re exploring with one finger, you can use another finger to double-tap to open an app, widget, and so on. IMPORTANT: The way these gestures are interpreted is specific to TalkBack. Other accessibility services may use the same gestures for different actions. Shortcut gestures in TalkBack Note: These gestures work only when Explore by Touch is turned on. TalkBack has shortcut gestures to help you get to your Home screen, go back, and more. To try these shortcuts, swipe using a single motion: •Up then right: Open notifications •Up then left: Home button •Down then right: Recent apps button •Down then left: Back button You can modify your shortcut gestures and the corresponding actions in TalkBack by going to Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack > Settings > Manage shortcut gestures.
