Re: [AI] Help me to take a right call
Hi Ekinath, I've had to take a bunch of statistics and probability courses as part of my undergrad coursework at Stanford, and as everyone pointed out, it's not that difficult here. My disability office provided me material in MathML, and it became very easy thereafter. Best, On 10/4/15, Dr. G. Re: [AI] Help me to take a right call
Vidya pointed out rightly. if u could get materials then we can do Econometrics and Statistics. I have done statistics in my UG and PG. I have not faced that much issues in learning Statistics but in the case of Econometrics I faced difficulty in the UG level and I was forced to ignore it in my PG. here the important thing is the availability of study material in accessable formats. but there may not be such issues in your case . in the case of SPSS I myself find it difficult to use it. it may be because of my lack of practical experience in using it. it's not challenging if you have Materials in accessible format. I have done statistics in graduation and even now, I have a Subject. as of now, I use excel for all calculations. for using software like R, accessibility has improved a lot. I have a link which gives info of the same. the only challenge in India is we don't get accessible Materials which won't be a problem abroad. [AI] Help me
Hello! My name is sajal arora. I am form panipat, haryana. I am a patient of RP. I was diagnosed in 2011 in diljit hospital in amritsar. I am 20 years old. I have a poor central vision and ok peripherical vision. Currently, I have an average vision status. I can drive at the time of day and rarely at night. I can't read books, I cant see properly at night, I cant adjust my eyes in low light. I came to realise that I had some eye problem in my eyesight when I was in 11th grade. I wasnt able to see blackboard from back and wasnt able to read properly in low light. Then I started using table lamps at the time when I studied at home. I went to many doctors but they only said that I have a weak retina and my vision will be getting low as the time goes. I finally did my 13th and was passed out from my high school. Then, in 2011 I took admission in engineering college knowing that I wont be able to read blackboard and books properly. At the time of my first sem exams I found my examination hall darker because of the rainy season. I faced a lot of trouble in attempting exams. Due to this thing I failed in alnost every exams. One day I was really fed up with the dark examination hall and at the time of my physucs exam I requested the examiner to change my seat from dark place to some bright face, she completely denied and told me to sit wherever I am sitting. It was really dissapointing situation for me fue to my constant failure in exams u decided to quit from b.tech and decided no more wastage of my pqrebts money because the private college has a huge amount of feed. And, I wasted 3 lakhs of my parents money. That was really a disappointing news fir my parents. I will never forgive myself for this wastage I did. Now, I am sitting idol at home. I decided to explore everything about RP I contacted many RPers all around the world After contacting other RPers I realised that I am a biggest fool on this planet. Now, I come to know that I can do anything I want. I want to began with a new course. I have to fight for myself. I want to to live like everyone does. Earlier, I was afraid to be in a disable list. But, now I dont. Now, I am looking for a giv university in india that can offer computer engineering or it with easy accessible services. Please suggest me and help me. Re: [AI] help me in understanding the method for solving such typeof mathematical problems
I never suggested this: Current Population (given) = 1,50,000 Population 2 years back = 1,35,375 (calculated as 1,50,000 * 0.95 * 0.95) Population 1 year back = 1,42,144 (calculated as 1,35,375 * 1.05) Current Population = 1,49,251 (calculated as 1,42,144 * 1.05) On the contrary, what I proposed was: If you know the formula for the compound interest, take the present population as the principal and solve it. I am writing the formula for the same. Principal * (1+ rate /100) ^N times Putting this formula and substituting the numbers: 1,50,000 (105/100) ^2 = 165375. This is the answer of the first part. Now the second part is: What was the population two years back. For this: 15 (100/105) ^ 2 = 136054.4 - Original Message - From: "Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala" To: Sent: Tuesday, June 25, 2013 12:10 AM Subject: Re: [AI] help me in understanding the method for solving such typeof mathematical problems @Mr. Sawhney: I wrote the earlier email to provide a method of solving the problem at hand, not to spoon feed with exact numbers. If I write 15000 instead of 15, it should not be so difficult to find out the solution. Secondly, look at the below calculations to understand how the method of multiplying the given number (15) twice to get the population 2 years ago is incorrect. Method 1 - Suggested by Mr. Kanchwala: Current Population (given) = 1,50,000 Population 2 years back = 1,36,054 (calculated as 1,50,000 / 1.1025) Population 1 year back = 1,42,857 (calculated as 1,36,054 * 1.05) Current Population = 1,50,000 (calculated as 1,42,857 * 1.05) Method 2 - Suggested by Mr. Sharma: Current Population (given) = 1,50,000 Population 2 years back = 1,35,375 (calculated as 1,50,000 * 0.95 * 0.95) Population 1 year back = 1,42,144 (calculated as 1,35,375 * 1.05) Current Population = 1,49,251 (calculated as 1,42,144 * 1.05) Taking the calculated population 2 years back using the two methods, one should be able to get the current population as given in the problem. This does not happen in case of method 2 because 5% of 95 is not 5, it's 4.75. Population 2 years back would be calculated as 0.9025x (0.95 * 0.95). Population 1 year back would be 0.9025x + 0.045125x = 0.947625x and current population would be 0.947625x + 0.04738125x = 0.99500625x whereas it should be x. The logic is simple - If you want to add 5% then multiply by 1.05 and if you want to subtract 5% then divide by 1.05. Note that I am rounding off the numbers as population cannot be expressed as a decimal number, Best Regards, Zujar. Accidently, Mr. Kanchwala has taken 15 as 15000, resulting in the anomaly. Further, the solution to the second question as suggested is very complecated. An easy way of approaching this is by employing set theory. Let h be the set of students who failed in Hindi, and E be the set of students who failed in English Let the total No. of students in the class=100 Now, we have: No. of elements in H=35 No. of elements in E=45 Further, No. of elements in E intersection H=20 Further, we know: E u H=No. of elements in e+No. of elements in H-No. of elements in e intersection h Where u is union (You can learn this formula for this type of problems, it will prove handy) Therefore, in this case: e u h=35+45-20=60 Now, 60 students failed in either English or Hindi or both. Therefore, students who did not fail in either of the subjects (rather who passed in both the subjects)=100-60=40 Best, On 6/23/13, Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala wrote: Pardon me for addressing this post to the list. Hi, First of all, sorry moderator. This will be the last E-mail from me on this thread. @Mr. Kanchwala I realise there is no benefit that anyone may gain by mugging up the values. I commented on your final answer to ensure that there is no confusion or ambiguity. I just revisited the solution as posted by Mr. Sharma, and now realised the error. Sorry about that. Your method, is in fact, correct, and the answer comes to 136054.4 (rounded off to 136054). The compound interest formula is another alternative. One may approach this problem using any method with which one is comfortable. Hi, Rather than trying to understand the terminology, one can simply understand the implication and complete the problem easily. Yes, the set theory is easy but most of us have gone through mathes up to tenth level. That is why, the terms like a union b, or complementary etc., are new to such aspirants. - Original Message - From: "Kartik Sawhney" To: Sent: Monday, June 24, 2013 11:09 AM Subject: Re: [AI] help me in understanding the method for solving such type of mathematical problems Hi, The solution as suggested by Mr. Sharma to 1B, is in fact, correct. If one multiplies 15000 by 95% twice to get the population 2 years back then the answer is 135375. This answer is incorrect, the correct answer is 13605. Here's the explanation: Let x be the population 2 years back. 1 year back the population would be: x + 0.05x =1.05x Current year the population would be: 1.05x + (0.05 * 1.05)x =1.05x + 0.0525x =1.1025x Given that current year the population is 15000. So, 1.1025x = 15000 Therefore, x = 15000 / 1.1025 =13605.44 rounded off to 13605. Note that 5% of 100 is 5 but 5% of 95 is 4.75 not 5. So, if the population 1 year back is 95 then current year it would be 95+4.75=99.75 and not 100. Pardon me for addressing this post to the list. Re: [AI] help me in understanding the method for solving such type of mathematical problems
If you know the formula for the compound interest, take the present population as the principal and solve it. I am writing the formula for the same. Principal * (1+ rate /100) ^N times Putting this formula and substituting the numbers: 1,50,000 (105/100) ^2 = 165375. This is the answer of the first part. Now the second part is: What was the population two years back. For this: 15 (100/105) ^ 2 = 136054.4 Now the second question. Suppose, the total number of students is 100. 20 failed in both subjects. therefore, subtract the amount from the total numbers = 100 = 80. Now, 35 minus 20 = 5 students failed in Hindi only. Therefore, 80 minus 5 = 75 % students passed in Hindi. And 80 minus 15 = 65 % students passed in English. - Original Message - From: "Mohib Anwar Rafel" To: "accessindia" Sent: Saturday, June 22, 2013 9:34 PM Subject: [AI] help me in understanding the method for solving such type of mathematical problems Hi friends I am unable to understand the way to solve the following problems, even I couldn't understand it by reading R. Hi Mohib, As you might be knowing, I had prepared for cat 2012. This exam has very vast syllabus when it comes to mathematics. And I am also a person with almost 0 vision. I hired a volunteer who used to read out each and every question and when ever required it's solution for me I used to pay special attention towards those illustration which are given in the starting of the chaptor. these illustrations provide an overview of whole chaptor. If you can understand those then, generally a chaptor doesn't remain that much difficult. if you are planning to depend on jaws to complete your syllabus then, I am sorry to say but it is very very difficult. So hire a volunteer and utilize your time more efficiently. Feel free to call me any time. I am always available for help. Re: [AI] help me in understanding the method for solving such type of mathematical problems
Hi, i'm of the opinion that there can not be a single formula to solve such problems. you can solve the first question as mentioned below: (a) population after two years : (15 * 105%) 105% = 165375. (b) population before two years : (15 * 95%) 95% = 135375. in simple words in situation (a) multiply the given figure twice with 105% and in situation (b) multiply twice with 95%. 2. according to the problem: (a) students failed in both subjects = 20%, (b) students failed in english only = 45 - 20 = 25%, (c) students failed in Hindi = 35 - 20 = 15%. (d) total students failed = 20 + 25 + 15 = 60%, so passsed students = 100 - 60 = 40%. for more queries you can contact me of the list. - Original Message - From: "Mohib Anwar Rafel" To: "accessindia" Sent: Saturday, June 22, 2013 11:04 AM Subject: [AI] help me in understanding the method for solving such type of mathematical problems Hi friends I am unable to understand the way to solve the following problems, even I couldn't understand it by reading R. Of course it is possible to open the mousover links via jaws to open it symply hit the enter key or/ spacebar key on it. If it is not opening, then place your virtual curcir on that, and press insert+jaws curcer then press the left mouse button on that it must open. If it will not, then let me know, i will let you know another method to activate the mousover link In technical language, mouse over means, that link will activate when mouse curcer over it. Re: [AI] help me to purchous an i pot
And, a very warm hello to you. iTunes is a music management software program created by Apple, which is required for doing anything on an iPod. It is used to synch your music files to your player and for just about anything you might want to do with your player. One cannot just copy and paste files onto an iPod, one has to go through iTunes, as the iPods do not show up as removable drives on your computer. If one has an iPod, one can use iTunes to purchase media such as music, audiobooks, etc. If one has an iPod Touch, iPad, or an iPhone, one can use the iTunes store to also purchase applications for use on ones device. I have heard of these devices being referred to as purchase delivery devices, as one is supposed to solely use iTunes for purchasing ones content, which makes Apple billions of dollars a year. In my opinion, these devices are way overpriced, and Apple should just give these devices away. They would make more money in the end through iTunes. There is a percentage of blind/vision-impaired people who find iTunes inaccessible and so pay $75 for specialized scripts for JAWS so that they can then use iTunes and their iPods. There are others who do not find a need to use these expensive scripts, as they find iTunes accessible enough to use. It depends on the user. If one can get past any of its accessibility faults, iTunes is usable. Just to add, the Ipod touch 32 and 64 GB come with in-build voiceover. Besides, they have e-mail configurational tools and several other features and all of them may not be useful to us. Ipod touch also can play audible books as well. However I didn't like it's sound quality and it's internal speaker is terible. but very good with headphones or speakers. Vetri. Re: [AI] help me to purchous an i pot
Hi, It all depends on what you want to do with your player. If you are going to listen to DAISY books exclusively, then a DAISY player would be the best choice. If you enjoy dealing with iTunes and want to play MP3 files and Apple audio files, then an iPod would be the player of choice. If you wish to play MP3, OGG, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, MP4, M4A, and other file types, then you may wish to take a look at: http://www.talkingmp3players.com/ Most MP3 players will play the MP3 portion of DAISY files, but without the navigation extras one gets with DAISY players, and of course, they won't play the text-based DAISY files. I hope that helps. Regards, Laz You wrote: Hi friends, I would feel highly obliged if you will find some time to satisfy some curiosities of mine regarding the i pot and its utility.
