[sw-issues] [Issue 75542] Simple way to achieve page s numbering since selected page
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=75542 Issue #|75542 Summary|Simple way to achieve pages numbering since selected p |age Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.0.4 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|mru Reported by|tuharsky --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 20 07:51:55 + 2007 --- Sometimes an user needs the page numbering to be displayed since page 2, however on the page 2 the number of page must be 2. There is not known easy way to do this. Users must cope with styles, that is quite a heavy tool for such simple task. Must be also clear, that not all users need to use styles, and not all even want to learn styles. We should offer simple way to do it, just like the M$ Word does. For the user, page numbering should just offer a field, where could user specify a page, where the numbering should start from. Internally, the OOo could for example create different styles for the pages, or so. It dosen§t matter. Just the user should be able to do the page numbering reasonably simple way. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 75541] Unable to assign style to existing pages -Stylist behaviour inconsistent
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=75541 Issue #|75541 Summary|Unable to assign style to existing pages -Stylist beha |viour inconsistent Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.0.4 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|mru Reported by|tuharsky --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 20 07:32:36 + 2007 --- Hi Obviously, I have made my first contact with Styles in order to achieve page numbering different for the two parts of document. I thought I could just set cursor position to the needed page, run the Stylist, and select the style for the page. However, it dosen't work this way, while it works for other style types -e.q. You can simply assign a style to selected area of text. The behaviour of Stylist is inconsistent, non-intuitive and confusing. One should be able to just point the page and set the style. For now, the only way is to insert the page break from menu (Ctrl-enter is not sufficient) and select the style FOR THE NEXT PAGE (not the actual one) in the window. This is annoying. I understand the need for page break in order to exactly border the area, since the usual text pages are fuzzy and the style needs the exact point, from-to where it should be applied. However where they already ARE ordinary page breaks (Ctrl-Enter) in the text, the Stylist should automatically accept them as regular borders for page style purposes. So that if I put cursor on page and select a style for the page, Stylist should assign the style for the current page and all pages before and after, until it gets to the near page break (or start of document) before the actual page, and near page break (or document end) after the actual page. If I select more pages, it should assign the style to all pages included in selection, and in pages before the selection until page break (or document start) is reached, and after the selection until page break (or document end) is reached. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Disclaimer : I'll have to go at work, so I have not too much time this morning. Waiting can we summarize what is broken, to start patch creation ? AFAI see : 1) Mac OS X is mainly broken because of the library linking order 2) maybe "OOo-style" W32-.NET2003-**sh build. ( sorry if I'm nwrong, I'm not Windows guru ) 3) other ? ( sorry I didn't have time to entirely read the issue ) For Mac OS X part, and because it is a specific Mac need, I propose to protect older order for MACOSX only in both xmlhelp/util/makefile.mk and binfilter/filter/source/bf_offwrp/makefile.mk, like in the patches cloph chown me. Something like : .IF "$(OS)"=="MACOS" (ancient order ) .ELSE (current mingw change) .ENDIF Should be enough. If other than Mac OS X operating system / archs break for the same reason, then we have to add logical or, and rewrite to match with reality. I'll have more time this afternoon, and please nevermind if my proposal is wrong. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 75496] performance penalty after 21st conversion to formula object via macro
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=75496 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 20 04:15:37 + 2007 --- Ok, I think what-I-see, can be tied to what-you-say about this OLE-cache thingy background: While typing a document I used to go back to every expression, and then convert it to an open office formula by selecting it and then Typing Alt-I-O-F (insert-object-formula). I'll refer to this as *manually*. I needed to do this repeatedly. My first attempt at creating a script like this was to record a macro, and then modify it. I'll refer to this as *script_v1*. It uses the CurrentController.Frame, createUnoService and executeDispatch. In a way it mimics doing it via the interface. Then I quickly learned I could code something like this with the advantage that the cursor would not change position when I press ctrl-G. I'll refer to this as *script_v2* (the one in the first description of the bug report). Why-do-this: Ans: Doing it this way has Latex-like feel to it, and allows one to go back and forth between formulas and then convert them to objects when satisfied. Experiments: * afresh: script_v2: changed Tools.Options.OpenOffice.Memory to 30, and confirmed that the hit is felt at the 31st conversion, undo list contains 30 "changestyle" entries * afresh: script_v2: changed Tools.Options.OpenOffice.Memory to 5, and confirmed that the hit is felt at the 6th conversion, undo list contains 5 "changestyle" entries * Here is a snip of the undo stack Change Style: Object6 Change Style: Object1 <-- notice the reverse order of these extra undos Change Style: Object2 <-- Change Style: Object3 <-- Change Style: Object4 <-- Change Style: Object5 <-- insert $1 insert $1 Change Style: Object5 insert $1 insert $1 Change Style: Object4 insert $1 insert $1 Change Style: Object3 insert $1 insert $1 Change Style: Object2 insert $1 insert $1 Change Style: Object1 insert $1 insert $1 * if Ctrl-Z is used it has to do something on the 5 objects (no idea what) and then go back undoing what I think the three actions that were done by script_v2 * afresh: script_v2: I first changed 5 expressions into objects, and then did the 6th one manually. This also got incurred the delay. However, there were no extra entries in the undo list. * afresh: manually: I then tried doing this manually, This method does not seem to incur a performance penalty. * afresh: script_v1, Surprisingly though it mimics user actions via the dispatcher it too has this ole-cache? problem. The performance is actually a bit worse because the view cursor is jumping around. Q1) If it is an ole-cache thing, why should it appear in the undo list. should a cache change be recorded as a real change or something else going on. Q2) So why does this ole-cache thing affect script_v1, despite the fact that it uses the dispatcher, and script_v2 but not while doing the same manually. (nb. this is making script worse than manual), Increasing the Tools.Options.OpenOffice.Memory only changes when this problem is hit, doesn't actually solve the problem. q3) May be different approach needed in cache manipulations ? q4) Does this affect other kinds of objects ? (i don't know how to test this) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This affects at least Task and Slide panes in Impress, Pages pane in Draw (and probably others). Repro steps: 1. Start Impress, drag Slides pane (on the left) to the middle of the screen to undock. 2. Right-click and hold the white space between two slides - you will see context menu. [sw-issues] [Issue 75522] Paste "unformatted text" i nto a footnote as default
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=75522 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Mar 20 02:37:23 + 2007 --- MRU: In step-3, I tried to paste unformatted text by using the menu option: Edit > Paste special >Paste unformatted text. But it does not work: It pastes text with "default" format only; not in the "footnote" format. I have to click in the text and select the "footnote" style anyway. *** I tried another approach: 1. Paste the text directly (CTRL+V) 2. Select the footnote and press CTRL+SHFT+SpaceBar. Even then the text does not revert to the "footnote" format: It remains in the "default" style. The integer * q is called the quotient * r is called the remainder * d is called the divisor * a is called the dividend while openoffice respect the theorem for d>0 some problem arise when both a and d are less then 0. Ie q=quotient(-5;-3)=1 r=rest(-5;-3)=-2 But according to the previous definition it should be 0 ≤ r < | d |. from a mathematical point of view the correct solution should be: q=quotient(-5;-3)=2 r=rest(-5;-3)=1 as can be verified by: -5=-3*2+1 Also MS Excel behaves in the same (wrong) way. A possible solution could be to keep compatibility with excel to implement an optional mode parameter like in roundup function. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I asked how to do it on the users@openoffice.org email list how to do it. Here is the "transcript": >From the users@openoffice.org email list: > I want to use a frame to center text on the very middle of a page. I > performed: Insert -> Frame, in the resulting frame I want to put some text, > but this is not possible. Is there a special reason that this is not > possible, should I enable something to allow text in the frame? This is with > OO.org writer-2.1 on MS XP. The trick is: click beside the frame and then inside the frame. Maybe this is worth a request for enhancement, so that the focus is directly inside a frame when is is created? NB When a frame (or graphic, or object) is selected and you press ESC, the selection is ended and the cursor goes to the text beside it. It would be more intuitive when the frame would allow editing right away. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 75433] Numeric field interpreted as alpha after import

I do not wish to propose anything with regard to conditional logic based on the existence of dependent calculations, nor am I asking for a compatibility mode. I only raised that discussion to consider (and distinguish from) the case of spreadsheets wherein the author explicitly entered the leading apostrophe, which is not the case here. It is a peripheral discussion. With regard to the ISNUMBER function, I see FALSE too. But this is only mildly interesting. I pose the same the question to you: How DOES my Excel program successfully return the reasonable and correct product in cell b3 (1274.4) if it does not recognize a3 as a number? It DOES complete the calculation just so. More relevant, and at the risk of being monotonous, why does OO Calc regard the identical string as Currency when encountered as keyboard input, yet not so when encountered as a General string from the .xls? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 75533] Problem converting Excel's rate() function
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=75533 Issue #|75533 Summary|Problem converting Excel's rate() function Component|Spreadsheet Version|OOo 2.1 Platform|Macintosh URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|open-import Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|fallguy7254 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Mar 19 18:51:15 + 2007 --- I had a problem with the rate() function in a spreadsheet that I originally designed in Excel but am now using in OpenOffice Calc (version 2.1). The Excel syntax is "rate(nper, pmt,pv,[fv],[type],[guess])". If you omit the pmt value in Excel (e.g. "rate(12,,-254,328)"), Excel will assume the pmt is zero and calculate the rate. When opened in Calc, the resulting formula is "rate(12;;-254;328)" which results in "Err:511". A global search & replace that searches for ";;" and replaces it with ";0;" will fix the formula, but it would be nice if Calc automatically converted the formula, replacing the missing pmt variable with a zero. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
