[framework-issues] [Issue 93668] Internet access fails with "Test Mail Settings" and "Check for updates"
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=93668 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 27 16:11:04 + 2008 --- I'm deeply ashamed to report that the (non) issue is resolved. My software firewall - Zone Alarm Pro - had developed an internal inconsistency in that all external indicators in the GUI showed that OOo had access to the internet, but nevertheless access was blocked. A similar problem with Firefox caused me to remove all (nearly) traces of ZA and re-install, leading to access being restored to both products. Please accept my apologies for the time wasted on this issue. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I haven't used MS Word for many years, but retain a copy on one machine for interchange with those people who haven't yet discovered OOo. In converting a document I noticed that shadowed, black text in the OOo header did not render as black in Word and assumed a bug, but it seems to be just a display characteristic of Word about which I had forgotten. Printed output is correct, so obviously no bug. Humble apologies for the inconvenience. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. There is no mention of a header specific bug, and the earlier symptoms appear to be different in their effect: I reported a bug in the conversion from OOo to MS Word, whereas 67664 appears to be the reverse. I suggest that the only similarity is in the use of shadowed text and that we are dealing with more than one bug. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Of course one cannot have a prefix such as "Dear" in this case and it has to be manually entered in Step 6. 3.Again in Step 4, the General salutation is not editable and the default values are – a technical term here – somewhat limited. It would be a big step forward if this list could be edited and data source fields entered, so as to support 2) above. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If one performs a manual edit to fix this, such as by turning Headers on and modifying the Address Block frame to get it out of the way of the header -- most letters have the sender in the upper part of the page -- then OOo becomes unstable in an infinite loop, requiring a "Kill" command to get back control of ones machine. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The sample text "Fontwork" is invisible and, if located by cursor sometimes renders in black, but not consistently, and any attempt at editing the text results in the containing frame's closure. This creates a user problem in the detection of multiple spaces between words, where only one might be desired. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=61443 User peterhb changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|CLOSED|UNCONFIRMED Resolution|WORKSFORME| --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Feb 1 08:54:19 -0800 2006 --- The response suggests that analysis was somewhat superficial. One of the data source headings, and hence one of the merge fields is a string, "Post Code", containing a space character. If this string is not quoted the result is worse than the redundant paragraph mark - the field is hidden whether or not there is printable data! It may be a design intention to prohibit space characters in spreadsheet column headings, but I can find no such bar in the Help files, nor in any documentation. It would be a strange restriction, but if intentional there should be a very obvious statement to this effect that could not be missed by any installer/user of OpenOffice.org. An obvious workaround is to modify all data sources to eliminate spaces (and any other prohibited characters), but promulgating this to all current users could prove interesting. Finally, the case of imported files in alien formats, e.g. MS Excel, needs to be considered. Spaces are not an issue in column headings in those products. It is clear from the lists that users, including this one, expect a level of functionality similar to that found elsewhere, where one ticks a box to suppress blank fields.
