Re: [android-developers] Re: the "Welcome to Android Development" window doesn't appears

2012-11-14 Thread Andy W
I had exactly the same problem with Eclipse Juno on Mac 10.5.8.

I removed the 32bit version and reinstalled with the 64bit version of
Eclipse, and this allows the ADT to be installed, and at least visible.
After restart, the welcome to android message appeared as expected. I
still had to go to Window - Customize Perspective -> Menu Visibility - File
- New and tick the Android Application to make this option visible,

Thank you, Tor, but I did'nt see this window at first time, so I couldn't
install the existing SDK on Eclipse, it's that what I'm trying to get.
Would you know how can I do it?
Thank you!

2012-10-21 Thread Tor Norbye
The Welcome Wizard is only shown the very first time you run the Android
tools (when we need to get you to point Eclipse to an SDK install, etc). In
addition to storing the path to the Android SDK in the Eclipse workspace
settings, it also stores it in your home directory's ".android/ddms.cfg"
file.

[android-developers] Re: the "Welcome to Android Development" window doesn't appears

2012-10-16 Thread never2ice
I had the same problem. Maybe there has been some update causing the
behavior to change, or perhaps whoever created the instructions did not use
the default installation location when installing the Android SDK,
different OS, or who knows. Regardless, I think I have found where this
information can be populated in the cases where the described "Welcome to
Android Development" window does not appear.

In Eclipse, click *Window > Preferences > Android*. This window has a field
labeled *SDK Location*. Although I am not certain of it, I believe this is
where the path that you enter in the "Welcome to Android Development"
screen gets stored. If yours is like mine, it was already populated with
the correct path which might explain why we did not get the "Welcome to
Android Development" screen. In my case, my OS is Windows 7 64-bit and the
path to the SDK location is *
C:\Users\[profilename]\AppData\Local\Android\android-sdk*, which was the
default path during the Android SDK installation process.

So if you are as lucky as I was, you did not get the "Welcome to Android
Development" screen because the correct path was already in place.

I had the same issue. java -version reveals java version "1.7.0_07".
I proceeded to build the my first app class without difficulty, though.

[android-developers] Re: the "Welcome to Android Development" window doesn't appears

2012-10-12 Thread avluis
For reference, I replied to the Topic Poster, but here is what I provided
him with:
--

OK, I see that you are using eclipse 4.2.1 so it is not an eclipse version
issue.
Can you verify that you have a proper jdk from apple installed, since you
are using 10.5.8.
One issue I'm familiar with on 10.5.8 is that even if you download and
install jdk6, it won't be set as default.
Referencing this post from a blogger I know, try this after you install
jdk6 either with system updates or by downloading from apple;

Open terminal:
cd /System/Library/Framework/JavaVM.framework/Versions
sudo rm -fr CurrentJDK
sudo ln -s 1.6 CurrentJDK

Then close that terminal instance, open a new one and run;
java -version

If it reports 1.6.0.xx and eclipse can't load the android ask let me know,
since the issue is elsewhere.

If this applies to you, please go ahead and follow those steps.
