[arr] Rahman’s ‘Jaage Hain’; Guru’s delight

2006-12-03 Thread jsrwm
http://www.indiaglitz.com/channels/hindi/article/27399.html

Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 02, 2006]

A R Rahman has done it again. His superlative brilliance in the
soundtrack of `Guru' is a revelation for the music lovers. Be it
`Barso Re' where Aishwarya is dancing like a dream under the canopy of
blue sky, `Ae Hairathe Aashiqui' or `Tere Bina' Rahman gems are a
collector's delight. But the song that leaves you speechless has to be
`Jaage Hain'. For it's not merely a song but a state of mind. A stream
of sub-consciousness that flows unabated invoking the spiritual side
of your personality that stays dormant.

Chitra starts off the proceedings in a slow sedate manner as her
vocals unleash the magic with little or no accompaniment in the
background. AR joins her in the whispering mode pleading for some
sleep for he has remained awake for most part of the night anyways.
And then he shifts gears magnificently and touches the highest
contours of magnificence. There are layers of meanings in this song.
It's about human life where happiness is a brief episode in the
general drama of pain. `Jaage Hain' is one song that catapults Rahman
to the level of greatest maestros or artistes who delivered much more
than mere entertainment through their art.

Rahman magic flows like an impassioned river determined to embrace the
sea of timelessness.

[arr] My Pick- the best of Gurru

2006-12-03 Thread Vikram Kumar

After doing rounds after rounds of listening to Guru's Music for the past
two weeks, undoubtedly all the songs are real gems. But one song which
really outshines the other is Jaage Hain. The lyrics are really soulful
and the vocal start of the song with minimal music is highly complemented by
the chorus ending of the song. A.R. Rahman's voice is undoubtedly the
highlight of the song and the more you hear this song, the more it grows on
you. This song has a typical Rahman effect and is definitely the one to
watch out for after the release of the movie.

Re: [arr] Your Favourite SOng In Guru

2006-12-03 Thread Ricky
For me:

1. Maya Maya -- never before heard fusion of Arabic and Gujarati folk.
Once you get past the accent of Tottler, its really catchy and
wonderful. Intrinsic layering including chorus harmonies make it even
more fun to listen again and again.

2. Ae hairathe - perfect singer selection (I believe the first time
after Bahoon de darimiyan, Hari and Alka together)..A fusion of
Ghazals, Sufi, Italian (accordian)..brilliant. And of course lyrics
are mind blowing in this one (kyu urdu farsi bolte ho)

3. Tere bina -- what can I say - another sufi feather in Rahman's cap.
To be honest, would have preferred another singer here (e.g Sonu as it
would have also suited Abhishek and been more realistic in terms of a
hero singing). Also a silky voice like Sonu would have added extra
magic to it. Of course, the presence of Chinmayee was a pleasant
surprise! Lyrics are great..but yet to understand the significance of
na ja souten pukare!

4. Jaagen hai der tak - really gives goosebumps. Very nicely done.
Imagine creating such a wonderful composition with just about 4 lines
of lyrics! And then have such amazing orchestration that only Rahman
can achieve.

5. Barso re - cool breezy song, good rendetion, nice beat. Love the
presence of gujarati garba (before the 1st para)..and the chorus
singing (before the 2nd para).

6. Ek lo ek muft -- love the start -- its really playful.

7. Baazi laga -- even though it has one of my fav singers - Udit,
still fail to be impressed by this track :(

hi friends lets discuss about our favourite song in GURU and the
reason why we like it...

Personlly if i put this question before me... i think its really a
very tough one for me... i like all the songs...
 1. Tera bina - the sufi touch and rahman's voice and of course
chinmayee's too
 2. Barso re - Beat and Shreya Goshal's Voice
 3. Bazzi Laga - Programming and the tune jus gives a perfect look of
80's tune
 4. Ek Lo Ek Muft - Bappi Lahiri's Voice and Beat(esp the Yammo Yammo
Part wit Tabla)
 5. Ay Harathi - The most Catchy tune of the album... everything in
this song is really amazing
 6. Mayya - Beat, Toller's Voice
 7. Jaage Hain - Rahman's voice, TUne. Choir, Arrangements. ..

You haven't heard 1942 - A love story??? Which world did you live in?
Ek ladki ko dekha, kuch na kahoo, rhim jhim, pyar hua chupke se, rooth

Of course - Satyam, Madhumati (suhana safar), Sadma (Ae zindagi),
Baiju bawra (man tadapat, o duniya ke rakhwale)..are pretty good ones
too.

However, I am not sure about the authenticity of this list. I mean -
no SD Burman (Guide, Aradhana, Abhimaan, etc), no Shankar Jaikishan
(Raj Kapoor hits, Shami Kapoor hits), ...
Gems like Hum Dono (Abhi na jao chod kar, main zindagi ka saath, etc),
Teesri Manzil (which song to name!), and soo many others are missing.
I am no so sure that Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Sadma, Qurbani or Hero
would fall in a masterpiece category!

View anyone?

  Hi,
  Group,
Hope all of you have seen the glimpses of Barso Re song. Can
anybody tell me where is it been shot? The falls, temple and greenery
seemed to be located somewhere in South India. I am waiting for the
  reply eagerly...

One more thing I want to say, Don't you think that Rajeev Menon has
created MAGIC on the celluloid? I was so soaked while seeing it as if
the rain drops were touching me too.

Hello Rakesh, I think most part of 'Barso Re' song is picturised in
Badami, Karnataka. You can see the ancient rocks and temples of the
Badami throughout the song. But don't know, whether a waterfall is
located there or not.

[arr] Re: Special mention about Netaji's music

2006-12-03 Thread avinash
Hi Ajit Dinesh, I agree with all your points. Bose is one path
breaking album by ARR. He recreated entire era of Mohd.Rafi and
proved that he can go back to the time too :) The whole album was
rich in orchestration and accoustics and showed his mastery in
western(German) and Indian regional(Bengali) music.

And also I want to mention one thing specail about
instrumentals/BGMs in the album. See how he has played the difficult
notes of Desh ki mitti and ekla chalo(in Netaji theme) in
instrumental version. That's what I love about ARR. He never copy a
note to note song in instrumentals. He improvises them to play
easily in instrumentals. That's called genius!!
Also I almost cry when ARR plays Desh ki mitti mukda in
instrumental version. Such a soothing effect !!

Thanks

I can't agree more. NETAJI music is very special for me. The
struggle
of Netaji himself comes really well in all the songs and BGMs in
this
movie. Almost all songs have the SAD thread, which is the
treadmark of
Rahmans best songs. I have seen the movie also and I liked it very
much
and in the current DHOOM and BOOM kind of songs and movies, NETAJI
 certainly stands out.

My favourite song from this movie Aazadi sung by Rahman himself.
+
Goomparani + Mere Desh ki mitti + Kadam Kadam + Zikr Hey,
wait, I
 have covered almost all songs.

Indeed it is THE finest amongst Rahmans Hindi movies.

I am looking for the DVD or VCD of this movie. Anybody knows if
this is
 out ?

I just listened to the entire soundtrack of Bose once again. One
word.majestic. Such a shame that this amazing piece of art
never
got recognized. The beautiful songs of Desh Ki Mitti,
Ghoomparani,
Ekla Chalo, Azaadi, Zikr..absolutely mindblowing in terms of
melody, depth, richness, arrangements, variety, passion, and
soul.
And the background pieces, although symphonic and hollywoodish
for the
most part, just shine of extravagant melodies and breathtaking
  compositional elements.

[arr] akbar -jodha in trouble

Ashutosh Rahman face the legal
wrath.
Dec 02, 2006

Ashutosh Gowarikar A.R.Rahman,
the team that gave us the Oscar nominated,
Lagaan and the critically acclaimed
Swades is now working on a magnum
opus, Akbar-Jodha with Hrithik Roshan
and Aishwarya Rai.

One of the most awaited
movies in Bollywood takes a
glimpse into the life and
romance of the Emperor Abkar. Hrithik
plays Akbar and Aishwarya plays Jodha.
  [ Ashutosh Gowarikar]

The shoots of the film are
going on in and around
interiors of Rajasthan.

But now the movie has got into
a legal tangle as the script
has earned the wrath of the
powerful Rajput community.

Whatstarted as some grumble and
dissatisfaction in the communityhas led to a
petition at Jaipur’s district court.
The Rajputs claim that Gowarikar is distorting history
by projecting a romance between Akbar and Jodha bai.
They state that Jodha bai was not Akbar’s wife
but his daughter in law.

Thepetition cites 24 historical works to
show that Akbarwas not married to Jodha Bai
but to Hira Bai - a princessfrom Jaipur.

Onthe other hand, Gowarikar refuses the
charges by emphasizingthat his film is based
on solid research and it’sunfair to
charge him with distorting history.

Thecase is coming up for its next hearing on
December 6.

[arr] Sainikudu film review interesting

2006-12-03 Thread bpr_arr
Following is a paragraph from the film review.

Haaris Jayaraj's songs are good despite the fact that all are copied tunes (two
of them from Rehman's Dil Se and the song Go.Go ..Adigo is copied from Michel
Jackson's).

[arr] My Pick In Guru

2006-12-03 Thread Shwetha Signs
7 - Ek lo Ek Muft - (situation - halla gulla - bombay)
  6 - Maya Maya - (satrangi re - dil se ? )
5 - Baazi laga - (typical old hindi songs style)
4 - Barso re (some more arr songs in this style - brinjal song in duet,
gamble song in may madham)
3 - Jaagey Hain (good suits for school/college assembly prayer)
2 - Tere Bina (arr has added weight to chinmayee's voice technically = sounds
amazing even resembles bombay jayashri's voice there)
1 - Aye Hairathe Ashique (beautiful classic piece - many songs handled on this
raag)

I feel accordian is used in almost all the songs here n there, if noticed.

Eagerly Awaiting for the movie. A parallel theme to Iruvar.
