Re: CMDB and Discovery

2009-05-20 Thread Matt Ferrigno
I think you meant to ask if the Discovery Server and be the same hardware as
the AR Server. I can't give a 100% percent answer on this but what I can
tell you is Configuration Discovery uses the same port as the mid tier so
those applications can't be bundled on the same equipment. I also would say
for performance reasons alone, FD/TD and Configuration Discovery should be
installed on non-shared hardware.

Configuration Discovery:

Cannot add product categorization in ITSM

2008-08-06 Thread Matt Ferrigno
I'm trying to add a new product categorization entry but I seem to be having
some difficulty with such a simple task. I open the Product Catalog setup

Re: OT: Anyone know of any good free blogs?

2008-06-13 Thread Matt Ferrigno
Hey now we're talking about something that I can help with.

First of, you can use a standard html to display a blog provided by a third
party service, though you would have to use javascript and some ajax to pull
the information to you site. This gets a little messy and is not really the
best solution, though I have done this before and it gets the job done.

A better solution would be to use a third party app that's integrated into
your site. For this first decided on what language is good for your
environment, php, asp, asp.net, or cold fusion. This will most likely be
determined by your current envirmonet. If you end up going the asp.net route
I can recommend quite a few good applications that are worth looking into. I
have alot of experience with asp.net and ajax development so feel free to
email me off the list if you want.

 Hello everyone and happy Friday!

I am extremely new to asp.net coding, couple of days to be exact.
Here is what I have done so far -
 1. Downloaded and installed MS Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition.
 2. Created a SQL DataSource connection to my SQL 2005 ARSystem database
 3. I am able to pull all data (Incidents that are currently in - Views,
 HPD_Help_Desk form)

Ok here is where I need some help -

What I would like to do

 1. Login Page (Check your Remedy LoginID and password from CTM:People form)
 2. Based upon your Remedy LoginID show you only your Incidents you have
 open etc.
 3. Update your Incidents if needed.

I've seen this done before, so I know it's possible.
I searched the ARSList, ASP.Net, BMC Developer Community and MSDN to no
 avail on some sample code
I hope someone is willing to share some asp.net code, or where I can find
 some sample code.

 Current system -

If there is any other information required please let me know.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

Re: Issues sending emails even though service is running

2008-05-07 Thread Matt Ferrigno
Are you sure you are running patch 6 on the email engine? I ran into a
problem at one point with because email engine pre-patch 2 does not delete
temporary files. In which case the temp folder filled up with over 1
million files and caused poor performance of the email engine (about 6
emails per minute). A simple resart of the email engine did not fix the
issue. We had to remove all the temporary files in the directory.

I have noticed that the aremaild.exe process usually takes a while to stop
so I have started doing a full service start/stop instead of a restart, and
sometimes I have to kill the process.

We usually we only have an issue if we have to restart the ARS service or
if the Exchange mailbox is unavailable for some reason (configured for
MAPI). A fresh OS restart and the email engine fires up fine. What we have
had to do lately when email stops processing is:
 •Stop the service/kill the process
•Delete the pending email messages that are waiting to be sent (export
 them first)
•Move the incoming emails that are waiting in Exchange from the inbox
•Start the service and try sending a new message (repeat until it will
 process the message(s))
•Move the incoming email back to the Inbox (verify they are processed)
 •Import the previously deleted records

I have noticed this issue in the previous shop where I worked at too, on
various patches of 7.0 and 7.0.1 (all Windows 2003). I have seen some
threads on the list where it looks like similar issues but no resolutions or
how many others have seen this behavior.

 Thanks,
 Jason

Re: Issues sending emails even though service is running

2008-05-07 Thread Matt Ferrigno
Jason,

I'm not sure the exact purpose of the .tmp file, but if I had to guess ...
It's most likely a .eml file that the email engine passes to the mail
server, but uses a .tmp extention to identify it as temporary since once it
is sent to the mail server it is no longer needed on the AR server. Anyway,
Since you went to patch 006 a while ago and are just now seeing this
problem, I'm assuming that this is not that cause of your issue. Though,
there's always room for hope. Good luck with your problem.

Matt Ferringo

email service alone usually does not fix the issue. There are no errors
   in
the email logs or email error form.

I have noticed that the aremaild.exe process usually takes a while to
stop so I have started doing a full service start/stop instead of a
   restart,
and sometimes I have to kill the process.

We usually we only have an issue if we have to restart the ARS service
or if the Exchange mailbox is unavailable for some reason (configured for
MAPI). A fresh OS restart and the email engine fires up fine. What we
   have
had to do lately when email stops processing is:
   •Stop the service/kill the process
•Delete the pending email messages that are waiting to be sent
   (export them first)
•Move the incoming emails that are waiting in Exchange from the
   inbox
•Start the service and try sending a new message (repeat until it
   will process the message(s))
•Move the incoming email back to the Inbox (verify they are
   processed)
   •Import the previously deleted records

I have noticed this issue in the previous shop where I worked at too,
on various patches of 7.0 and 7.0.1 (all Windows 2003). I have seen some
threads on the list where it looks like similar issues but no resolutions
   or
how many others have seen this behavior.

   Thanks,
   Jason

I have it OOTB, IM 7.0.1 patch 003

And tell me your IM version/patch. Mine is 7.0.2 p5.

I'm told it's supposed to be there, but my
installation doesn't have it. This is related to
 'SLMLookupTblKeyword' field on incidents being
 blank...issue I reported recently.

 Thanks.

Re: New ITSM Dataload Utility

2007-10-30 Thread Matt Ferrigno
Hey David,

I used this last week, on AR 7.0.01 patch for without any major issues for
the product catalog. Though the first time I ran it, something strange
happened and the validation didn't go through. I went into the DLD:Thread
Manager form, ran an unqualified search and deleted all the results. Then I
ran the validation again and it worked fine.

I'm a little confused though, are you not seeing any data on the data load
console screen, or the form that holds the actual data?
also, did you check the logs of in the dataloads directory to see if there
were any errors importing the data?

  Listers,

I am trying to use the latest ITSM Dataloader from BMC for loading
foundation data into ITSM. I am having issues with it. Has anyone used this
tool successfully? I am having the following challenges:

Data is not showing up in the Data Validation screen, this worked before
  and now it does not.

How do I get support groups and permissions loaded for the users, it
seems that you have to create a template for each user?

Re: How to get current field accessibility in Active Link workflow

2007-10-23 Thread Matt Ferrigno
You could have a temp field hold that value. Then just have the workflow
that enables/disables the field set the value of the new temp field also.
Then you can reference that field for the current accessibility.

Regards,

Matt

 Hi list,

is there a way to get the current accessibility (read/write, read only,
 diabled)
of a field using Active link workflow? We want to avoid some Active Links
that run on Return if the field access is read only at the time the user
 fires
 the workflow.

Or does anybody know of a way to work around Remedys behaviour to
fire workflow on Return on fields that are read only? What comes in mind
is to change the field to disabled. Any other options?

 Kind regards,
 Albert

Re: How to pass Date/Time varible to SQLstatement

2007-10-09 Thread Matt Ferrigno
Date Time strings in SQL 2000 should be encased in #'

so your end query should essentially look like this:

Select sum(C901001003-C901001002) from T255 Where C3 #10/7/2007 12:00:00
AM#

Hope This Helps,

Matt

 Hello All,

I have a SQL statement in Set Field action, and I have to pass a Date/Time
variable ($Start Date1$) to the query:

 Select sum(C901001003-C901001002) from T255 Where C3 $Start Date1$

I got incorrect syntax error. The sql statement looks like this the
 database log:

 Select sum(C901001003-C901001002) from T255 Where C3 10/7/2007 12:00:00
 AM

I know Remedy store Date/Time as integer in the database (by the way, we
are using MS SQL 2000), I wonder if there is any function I can use to
convert Date/Time to Int before I can pass the variable to the query???

I tried server side table loop to perform the same task, but since the
table is huge (couple hundreds thousands of records) always get time out, so
I figure I have to use direct SQL.

I opened a ticket with BMC last week, they just sent me the pdf of
 DatebaseRefGuide.

 Please help!!

 Hui

Hi Dick,

I might be able to lend a hand. I have a lot of experience with asp.net. Is
there anyway I could see you aspx file and code behind file? Also, do you
