2008-11-14 Thread justifiedright
Thank you Councilman.

As soon as I have it I can email to you the PDF.

Just let me know what email address you want it to go to.

In fact, if anyone else wants a pdf of the budget just send me your
email and I will send it over.

Use this email for me: DeSeno @ msn.com

2008-11-14 Thread sharon_b283
My old Parish, St. Katherine's had Bingo on Sunday evenings, followed
by Dixieland Jazz! We'd all get up, dance and sing! As I got older,
(teens), I hated that music, because it was my Mother's generation
music! Me? A rock n roll, freak! From 1954-1963, with the invasion
of the Beatles! May Festivals, when Mary was carried through the
street and into the Church, with all of the First Communion kids
dressed in their white, again. Those were the days! We had TJ's on
Wednesday and I had Eggplant Parm. I'm all choked up too! The bad
old days are the Good Old Days, now.

The only comparable pizza I can find now is TJ's on Main Street, which

Pizza in Howell sucks. Most of the food in Howell sucks. We drive

Later on Friday nights was the Friday Fish Fry at the Elks on 8th

After dinner we retired upstairs to the bocce court or out the bar.

 I'm getting misty eyed here.

Sometimes I feel like I'd give anything to be back home like that.

You beat me to it. Just finished going over the budget but that was
the first thing that caught my eye.

Another is that for certain categories salaries and wages are shown
as relatively nominal but then there are several hundreds of thousands
of dollars for other expenses.

What are those?

Also, appears to me that you MAY have a lot of duplicate functions.
You have code compliance and then you have construction official
categories. Then you have zoning, land use administration, etc. It
would appear to me that you would put them and all other related
functions under one department (How about REAL PROPERTY) and the have
separate functions within the department. They would share resources
and support staff in some instances.

I suspect this can be done with other functions as well. What's the
difference between Economic Development and COmmunity Development?
Again, why not ONE department with different functions sharing support
staff and resources.

Until something like that is done it will be impossible to know
exactly how many people you need for each function and where you can
cut redundancy.

Jim Keady - how about we get a complete list of EVERY city employee by
department and function. You can keep their names private but how
about a body count for each department with their title and function.
That includes EVERYBODY?

The budget and all supporting schedules (line by line) should be

[AsburyPark] Re: Budget's Up!

2008-11-14 Thread oakdorf
 How about a departmental flowchart

Soem very good articles about some communities are outsourcing
functions - while may appear to be more costly upfront, not so as the
contracted employee has been trained and certified in more then one
function. As an example, code enforcement or electrical inspector might
also do plumbing inspection etc.

And I strongly believe tax collections should be done at the county and
ideally state level. To me, it's one of most straight fucntions that
could be done and a higher/regional level.

As obvious as dealing with your personal electric consumption habits.
Another reason to get a formal citizen discussion of the budget
together. line by line as keady suggested. Or at least get some kind
of report from the citizen budget committee. isn't there one?

have any idea how much AP spend on electricity? how does it compare to
 other comparable cities?

From the budget document…

Cost of Street Lighting anticipated in 2007 = $285,000
Actual Cost Paid in 2007 = $308,100
Anticipated Cost in 2008 = $325,000

Removing redundant and unneeded fixtures along with initiating a
change over to energy efficient, neighbor friendly designs could
potentially save $$$

At last nights CM the budget/bond discussion led me to make comment
about the large waste being displayed by both the City and the
  Developers in electric consumption.

I brought to their attention the large number of industrial light
fixtures that are on utility poles, City property and the ConHall.

My point was that there are a lot of redundant, unneeded fixtures that
are costing everyone $$$ to operate. Some utility poles have 3
separate lights on them in the same location. The ConHall has
beautiful 1930s lighting that is being drowned out by unneeded flood
  lights.

I asked who is responsible for the costs of publicly located fixtures,
my 3 minutes were up and there was no answer, on to business.

Later on during one of the Ordinance hearings I raised
'point-of-order' and demanded an answer. Finally got one..
The City pays the costs of lighting. That would be the taxpayers.

It would reduce our budget deficit to remove redundant lighting and
use only energy efficient fixtures. The developers would benefit
financially also to follow the same path.

Again, no comment or discussion from our leaders... Blank Stares.

[AsburyPark] J Shore Prem Outlet

2008-11-14 Thread oakdorf
Just got back. Lots of people milling about.

Their indoor foodcourt has an information booth an around in brochures
of attractions. Deleware River, wildwood, camping... etc.

Maybe someone should put together a little brochure of Asbury and get
it displayed there.

And while you're at it, the signs on Rt 18 for the Rt 66 exit read
Asbury Pk...

Some elderly lady was walking with I guess her daughter past a blown
up postcard of a beach scene at the outlet and I heard the mother ask
and aren't they doing something in Asbury Park I heard...

Best thing there is the Johnston and Murphy shoe store...
