You may be able to use narrator in conjuction with a set of USB

Re: [Blind-Computing] windows vista system restore utility

2010-08-04 Thread Ishe Chinyoka
I never used that utility, but I use one called ERUNT -- Emergency Recovery
Utility for NT systems. This will back up your registry hives, and will
continue to back up your settings each time your system starts. It backs up
its data to a chosen folder (which by default is in the SystemRoot folder).
When you have a system crash, or when you encounter performance penalties
after installation or a virus attack, you simply restore your system by
running it from the backup folder. This is even possible in situations where
Windows refuses to load: you simply boot into safemode and run the restore
utility from the command line, or if not possible, you do a repair and then
run the restore utility. Better still, I found that you can create a Bart's
PE CD, and when your system is refusing to boot or do anything, you just pop
in the CD and run the live recovery CD: just access the backup folder and
run the restore utility and you will be prompted to restart your machine.

It will restore your system to the date you did your backup. The autobackup
feature also helps you to select the date to which you want to restore your
computer.
The author of the program made it to run on 32-bit systems and I'm not sure
if it will work on 64-bit systems.

It saved me a lot of headaches as I used to reinstall my system after every
few months, but now I have stayed with my system for two years without
reinstalling Windows.

If you are interested in the utility, and to make sure that it works on
Windows Vista, here is the link to the homepage:

http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/

Hope this helps someone out there, if not directly applicable to your
situation.

Cheers,

Ishe

Chris, try this.
Go to wherever the songs are stored on your computer. If they are
scattered

around, put them into a folder.
Now, hit your applications key, and go down to where it says, send too.
Then, send it to your Drive.
Now, you should hear, insert a disk into the drive.
After doing that, Go to the drive and open it. The file folder you sent
should be there.
Now, hit your alt F key, and go down till you hear burn to disk. hit
enter

there, and follow the prompts. Hope this helps.

Hi Matthew,

If you mean the K-lite codec i sent yesterday. It is Me Hamid "H a m
i d". I know most screen readers pronounce my name like hannah. Hamid
is an arabic name for males not females.

Now back to the player. After installing it, find under your start
menu/all programs, a submenu called K-lite codec pack. Open it with
your right arrow or enter and locate media player clasic and hit
enter. Of course it is preferable if you assign a hotkey to this item
for quicker launching.

After the program is loaded, you can use the keystrokes I included
yesterday, find them coppied below. One you would need now is
control+q to open a file or control+d to open a DVD. Another useful
keystroke i forgot to mention yesterday is Control or alt+page down
or page up to jump to the next or previous file respectively if for
example you have many open files. Of course some keystrokes would be
unavailable until a file is open.

SpaceBar = Play/pause
Period = stop
Control+Right arrow = Forward 5 seconds Left arrow = rewind 5 seconds
Up Arrow = increase volume
Down arrow = decrease volume
Control+m = mute
Control+Q = quick open
Control+O = open
Control+D = open DVD
Control+C = close open file or files
Control+5 = toggles the status bar
JawsKey+PageDown = read status bar, "it contains info about the
file's duration, the elapsed time and the active control".
O = program options

Good luck!

Yes, selecting a title or chapter from the Navigation menu should allow
you
to start playing at a particular episode. The problem is that the DVD
standard is vague, supplies no information, and generally one of the
worst

standards for the blind community! The author of the DVD has a lot of
room
to get creative with whether they want menus at the beginning, or end and
how to structure the titles and chapters. Perhaps on those misbehaving
DVDs
where you can not find the episodes by the title menu, try the chapter
menu.

[Blind-Computing] Missing Exit Bar On Websites

2010-08-04 Thread mark Torgerson
Hi
This question is about my sisters computer. She is sighted. Recently the
bar with the X on it for closing WebPages has disappeared. Also using alt f4
doesn't do any thing. Alt f doesn't bring up any thing either. Even alt space
bar didn't give her any accessible controls. She is using windows vista and
Google crone. I am not sure what to suggest next. Any ideas are appreciated.

God bless,
Mark

[Blind-Computing] How I'm going to do podcasts

2010-08-04 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all,
Many thanks for all your help with the issue of recording from two
sources at once. This is the solution I have come up with.
I will be using Total Recorder for all my podcasts. This is because it
comes with virtual drivers that digitally captures the sound card's
output. So even if I wear headphones it will still capture what JAWS or
whatever screen reader I use. With the free add-on digital mixer it is
possible to tell Total Recorder to mix both soundboard and software
sources. I plan to use the Standard Edition at the very minimum for my
recordings, then edit them in GoldWave if required.

Hope you like my proposal.

Re: [Blind-Computing] M3U File No Longer Plays

2010-08-04 Thread chris hallsworth
Don't think so no. I create playlists all the time in Winamp. This is
because when you add folders or files to a new or existing playlist you
are actually creating a playlist file telling Winamp which songs to play
and in what order. So I am not sure what's going on here. Perhaps the
files are in an unsupported format. Perhaps the files point to an
external source like a network drive or something.

Hello all. I recently created a folder in to which all of my m3U files now
reside and I notice some don't play at all and others only play some of the
songs.
Incidentally, I play them with Winamp.
My question is,
must the m3u file reside in the folder in which it was created?
Any help, as always, will be appreciated. Thanks.
