As long as you get the newest 32GB, or 64GB iPod touch, every thing is
accessible.
You can use its Email, type, use WiFi to brows the net, ETC. You can
even download and use applications on it.

Only the 32GB and 64GB versions are accessible though.
It has the same screenreader that is in the iPhone, VoiceOver.

Yes, iTunes is pretty usable with windows.
As far as holding your books, this depends on the type and size of the
 iPod.
The accessible iPods are the shuffle, nano, and touch.

You can have a range of 4GB which prob wouldn't hold all those books
at once, all the way to 64GB iPod touch which would hold the books,
 plus much much more. lol

Re: [Blind-Computing] I-phones

2009-11-30 Thread taylor scott
Hi, yes the iPhone is accessible.
Only the latest iPhone is accessible however.
The iPhone 3GS.

It has a built in screenreader called Voice over.
you can check www.apple.com for some information about the iPhone 3GS
and accessibility.
I don't know if you've ever seen the iPhone, but it is solid touchscreen.
This bothers some, and some love it.
That is a personal opinion, and a disicion only you can make.

As far as how well the iPhone 3GS screenreader VoiceOver works, it
works with every thing on the device. Weather, Internet browser,
contacts, ETC, ETC.
It even works with quite a few 3rd party applications that are what
makes the iPhone so popular.

There are 2 iPhone mailing lists I know of, ones a yahoo group, the
other google group.

I believe the subscribe address for the yahoo group is
aiphone-subscr...@yahoogroups.com and I am not sure about the google
list, maybe viphone-subscr...@googlegroups.com but not sure about that
last address.

Hope this helps.

Hello everyone, I am asking about home networking.

First I'll start off by telling you what I'd like to do, and then you
can tell me if and how it can be done.

I have several computers, XP and Vista machines.
I have standard Wireless internet.
I'd like to set my computers up where I can share certain files and folders ETC.

Is this possible, if so, what do I need?
Can I do this with what I have?
How secure would this be, and I am sure I have lots more questions.

So, if anyone knows how to address my questions, or has some good
tutorials out there, I'd love to have them.

Thank you for any and all information.

I find this verry strange, and some what rediculas.
People are advising others not to do something, when these people
obviously do not have all the right facts.
I have tested IE 8 with Jaws 8, 9, and 10.
IE 8 does work with jaws 8 apart from the menu bars. Those are not read aloud.
Jaws 9, and 10 both work perfectly fine on my Xp, and vista and
Windows 7 machines.

So, for someone to state that IE 8 doesn't even work with jaws 10 is
completely rediculas.
It is unadvisable for anyone running jaws 8, or earlier to upgrade to
IE 8 do to the lack of menu accessability, but for jaws 9 and 10
users, it works fine.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] IE 8 and windows XP

 Hi
Today my IE 7 decided to update to IE 8. I thought it sounded like a
good idea. So, I told it to go ahead. Now it will only run with add ons
disabled and when I bring up my home page (Google) it says I need to press
 a
button to open parent document. First, how do I turn on add ons in IE 8
 and
second, how do I get IE 8 to display the real Google page?
  Thank you for your help.

 God bless,
 Mark

Interesting.
I've been using IE 8 sence it was in beta, so this could be why but I
don't notice a speed difference.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed this issue?

I find this verry strange, and some what rediculas.
People are advising others not to do something, when these people
obviously do not have all the right facts.
 I have tested IE 8 with Jaws 8, 9, and 10.
IE 8 does work with jaws 8 apart from the menu bars. Those are not read
 aloud.

Re: [Blind-Computing] All those wonderful social sites

2009-05-10 Thread Taylor Scott

You need to install Mozilla's browser (FireFox).
www.mozilla.com
Then go to www.webvisum and install this Add On.
Simple as this, webvisum will read the capcha for you.
Then you can sign up and either ditch FireFox and go back to IE, or keep
using FireFox. Completely up to you.

Only problem with these sites - three guesses, the first two don't

Both facebook and twitter have captchas!!
Bottom line: totally inaccessible to me. What use is mctwit or anything

Whats to learn? lol
Its not much different in IE really.
FireFox's webvisum is the only way to do a capcha with out sited help.
Also, you only need to register using firefox, not use firefox from then on.

they could not revert to IE 7 , so before rushing to install Windows 7
 consider the consequences.

Hi, it's not even released; it's just in the prerelease phase. You can try
it out for yourself absolutely free. Whether you should then buy it is based
 on several factors.

Try going to Start run (hit the letter R for a quick key) type

This should bring up the control panel.
then try looking for user acounts.

 Hi Jacob,

Have you tried the virtual machine at the Vinux site? It is called,
Vinux_Virtual_Edition_1.4.exe and is configured for Vinux. Read the
accompanying text file for details. Go to the downloads page at:
 http://vinux.org.uk/

 Don Marang

PS I hear a new exciting distribution of Ubuntu, the Linux variant on
which Vinux is based has just come out! It is Ubuntu 2.0. I have heard
great things from several PC experts. I wonder if a Vinux 2.0 will be
 available soon?

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Microsoft Virtual PC software

Has anyone tested MS's own VMWare product?

It's called Microsoft Virtual PC FWIW.

It's free, and the configuration wizard etc. seem pretty usable, but will
have to either try find a valid VPC image that's already had an OS
installed, or maybe get a sighted person to try help me, for example,
install something like Vinux, or an older MS Os so I can see if I can,
 for
example, try out their screenreader utilisation, but I think it should
 work
since in my first test run, I could tell it the new VPC I was configuring
would think it had a sound blaster card etc.

 Anyway, here's the details/download page:
 http://www.microsoft.com:80/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=28C97D22-6EB8-4A09-A7F7-F6C7A1F000B5displaylang=en

FWIW, once I start up my virtual pc machine, I do need to use the jaws
cursor to get to some of the activity menus, but not really a problem.

Ok, while typing this message, I realised I was being stoopid, so I
 started
the VPC, and told it to mount the Vinux live CD image and then told it to
restart/reboot, and it did seem to be virtually booting up from the CD
 image
since I heard the sound prompt to hit enter to make it start running in
 live
mode, so will have to test it a bit more - LOL!

For those who don't know, Vinux is a modified/tweaked version of Ubuntu
linux that automatically makes things like the Orca screenreader start,
and has also, apparently, had it's whole user interface tweaked to suit
 us better.

 Stay well
