Subject: creating graphs in CF

Does anyone have experience of creating graphs in Cold Fusion? They need to
be line graphs, so unfortunately it's not possible to create them in
dynamically generated HTML. I don't want to use Java applets, either. I
guess the answer will be some kind of Java Servlet which takes variables and
creates gifs on the fly - if you can point me in the right direction I'd be
very grateful.

Thanks

Tom

P.S. Please respond directly as well as to the list, because I'm on the
archived version.

I'm getting the following error in the webserver log every hour or two. I
can't find any reference to the 16389 error listed (searched Technet,
Allaire etc), and although there doesn't seem to be any corruption as a
result, I'm keen to find out why it's happening.

"Error","TID=332","08/17/00","18:32:30",

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Has anyone here ever attempted to duplicate a portion of their ColdFusion
data query/output functions on a CD? I'm not looking to reuse any of our
ColdFusion code but to find a CD based interface to our data.

We want to produce working CD's of our data for the purposes of demo or as
a separate product. The main criteria would be to have the ability to
query and search a database and then output the results.

We use SQL Server but one way or the other we plan to export to an Access
file. We don't plan on utilizing a web browser interface unless someone
knows a good way to do that.

Thanks,

Michael,

Maybe delaying an action of some sort by a set time at the bottom of the

Dave,

I think the reverse can also be true, the difference between "web pages" and
"applications" can be quite considerable, a programmer coming from a more
traditional client/server background may have a more thorough grounding in
exceptions, error handling, transactions, locking, SQL etc. than a "web

Any user hiting the website would, be taken to a page dynamically generated

one of the problems from a client perspective is that the number of
templates is a lot higher, and although they may be lots of four or five

I'll second that "doesn't feel right" attitude. But then again, what feels
really good is being able to upsell your client on the conversion knowing
that you're doing more than just maintainance. You're developing a platform
that all future developers on the site will understand and (hopefully) will
stick to. In the long run, the Fusebox style is better.

RE: image database

2000-05-19 Thread Stewart McGowan

The actual image store is on a HP n class server with attached RAID, HPUX
(urgh). What we also do is "age" the files, if they've not been accessed
within two months the files are archived off onto a DVD jukebox running a
program called disk extender, (which is run by an NT server). This creates a
virtual drive on the server and can store a lot more than 12,000.

There is a degradation in some respects, finding something using the OS is
pretty difficult, but by using the DB u get a link direct to the files you
require, and yup again there is some degradation but its not huge and most
of the files are for re-use internally.

Right now, the files are in one directory on the HD. As the system gets
bigger, we will be adding additional disk arrays to the system. The database
has a field for each image indicating where it is located on the filesystem.
If the site grows more than I expect (1 million images) then there is the
capability of moving images to a separate network file server.

used for authetication?

RE: Documentation Methods

I document every single little thing, this was learned a while ago after
inheriting a complex banking system which although brilliant in its
application stank to high heaven in terms of documentation, it took weeks of
going through code to find anything, so now I go the other way and comment
and document everything, it might take a little amount of time to do, but in
the end it'll save someone the hastle of reading every line of code you
produce

Raptor Firewall Oracle, CF and Multi Threading

2000-06-28 Thread Stewart McGowan

Hi Guys,

I'm having problems with my apps, oracle and my firewall (Axent Raptor),
basically my firewall won't allow multi-threaded access through on port
1521, (which oracle uses), and therefore i'm kinda stuck with single
threaded apps, which is basically unacceptable. The firewall has a major
known problem that won't allow more than 30 concurrent users access through
SQLNET, with multi-threading, without crashing completely. I guess my
question is; has anyone previously run up against this problem and are there
any work arounds??

Thanks

Subject: Decentralized Publishing---Verity?

I am working on a Intranet for a 400 employee organization.
I would like to have each user or a designated user from each department
update their particular section of the Intranet.
Preferably this could be done using all of the Microsoft Office programs.
I have experimented w/ cf_activeedit and some other tags, and although
they are good they dont offer some of the flexibility that my users need.

Is there a way of generating decentralized site content using cold fusion?
Is spectra the solution I am looking for? (expensive)

I have had great success using templates that rely on cfinclude to pull in
the word/.htm
file-but when I set up verity to search a collection ---I return these
word/.htm minus the template.
Is there a way around this?

Thanks Malcolm

You can use the ROUND() function. (Go figure)

There are many other mathematical functions in the CFDOCS as well:

We have two clients whose Oracle servers we need to access from our
location remotely, through their firewalls, and neither of them seem to
have any idea how to make this work. We've been trying with one of them for
more than two months. The current situation with that one is that we can
get a successful response of "OK" with TNSPING but SQL*PLUS can't connect
successfully.

If anyone knows the solution to our problem or has any ideas or advice, my
company is willing to pay for your help. Please contact me off-list if you
are interested in working something out.

Of course, if someone wants to post the solution here to the list for
everyone, that would be ok too!

RE: Metadata 2

u could use the win32::odbc perl extension and get the table names that way,
I think the method is tablelist() or something similair

ODBC coneects you to a database. The type of the database determines what
tables you have to look at to get the metadata.

setup global variable with a mapping then use in the img tag, that works

in sql you would do this ROUND(4.59,1) giving 4.56 in CF numberformat(4.59,
"9.9") would work but it'd be nice if round gave you the length option.
